Hi,
I'm relocating from New Orleans and I'm looking into a few specific apartment complexes near UMD (I'll be in grad school this Fall). Any suggestions? Campus Gardens 2200 Phelps Road, Hyattsville, Silver Spring Towers Apartments 816 Easley Street , Silver Spring Towers of Westchester Park 6200 Westchester Park Drive, College Park, MD Highview Apartments 7004 Highview Terrace ,Hyattsville I'm also considering an apartment in Kensington, but I don't know the name of the complex. From what I've read, Kensington seems to be a good bet, but how is the traffic? |

Kensington is not near campus and the traffic is horrible.

Of the apartments you mentioned, I'd go with the Towers of Westchester Park. It's safe, and of the four you mentioned, it's the closest to the campus (left on Kenilworth Ave, right on Paint Branch Pkwy, and you're on campus in 5 minutes).
Campus Gardens is in Langley Park (it has a Hyattsville mailing address). It's also about 5-10 minutes from campus, but it's not very safe, ie. alot of MS-13 activity. I'm not very familiar with Silver Spring, but it's definately the furthest from campus. However, I'm pretty sure that the schools' bus system goes out to Silver Spring (I don't know if you will have a car or not). |

I highly recommend Daniel's Run in Adelphi - Southern Management Corporation. I live there and my commute to UMD during rush hour is about 15 minutes tops. The surrounding area is by no means glamorous, but the complex itself is very pretty (nice landscaping, clean, well-maintained); it's been a friendly and safe community and the management is excellent.
There's also a UMD shuttle stop about 1/2 mile away that could be an option if you don't have a car (though it's a bit of an uphill climb). |
