Post Pocomoke City, MD

I had a city in mind and was all set to go for today, but someone raised a question in another thread in regards to Pocomoke City, so I posted here. Pocomoke City is a nice blue collar industrial town on the Lower Eastern Shore in Worcester County. Some Pocomoke 21851 addresses are actually considered Somerset County, as the Pocomoke River is the county dividing line and the zip code spans the two counties. Route 13 and Route 113 are the largest roads providing access to the city, while Market Street is the "main drag" running throughout the city.

Pocomoke City is probably one of the better places to work on the so-called lower shore as the city houses a fair amount of light industry (gun manufacturers including Beretta, chemicals, & plastics, etc.) along with retail outlet centers, a historic downtown area with other shops and restaurants. There are trails, docks, and parks along the Pocomoke River waterfront. Littleton's Bed & Breakfast is a charming bed & breakfast at 2nd & Walnut Streets, housed in a 1860 Victorian home (former residence of a wealthy merchant). Don's Seafood (decent crab cakes) & The Upper Deck are two cool places to grab a good meal without resorting to the numerous fast food chains such as Hardee's & McDonalds.

As far as communities, first on the list is Jenkins Orchard, a classic suburb with great homes on acre-plus lots - one of the nicest on the Eastern Shore. Prices range from $350K up, a steal in Maryland, and one great thing about the community is that NOT EVERY HOME LOOKS EXACTLY THE SAME!!! Too many new subdivisions fall into this trap. Also, there is a new condo development near the river with boating facilities - you will likely see more appreciation on these than the turn of the century homes throughout the rest of the city. You can snag a nice 3BR, 2BA for about $300K, which is unbelievable for a 2006-built water access property on the Eastern Shore (similar neighboring Crisfield condos, while bayfront instead of riverfront, are pushing $500K).

Nearby, you have Snow Hill (15 miles), the county seat of Worcester County. Crisfield (22 miles away) is known as the "crab capital" of the Eastern Shore, and many commercial fishermen live and work in the area. The resort town of Ocean City is about 35 miles away and has excellent nightlife (Seacrets for the party animals) and a host of good, if not great, seafood restaurants.
