No I do not think Maryland state Law will allow such thing and that is kinda crazy.
Just keep it far way from children.

Blue crabs migrate significant distances to get to areas with different salinity and temperature at different points in their life cycle. I think it would be tough to duplicate this in a tank.

I think blue crabs would thrive in a home water environment. But not in a glass walled aquarium - they seem to do better in a metal walled container (like a crab pot) which keeps them nice and cozy. Of course, you must maintain favorable ambient temperature by placing said crab pot on a burner on the stove (you wouldn't want the crab to get cold, would you??) Feed the crab with some special crab food, called Old Bay. The crab will show its love and appreciation for this treatment by turning a lovely shade of red. Glad I could help!

I remember when we were younger we would "try" to make sand crabs our pet but that didn't work either. Why would you want a blue crab as one??? I personally as well like them in a metal boiling pot with lots of old bay.

Well, its different. That I will grant you. With a proper sized tank and the right elements, who knows?
Perhaps an easier crustacean- Sea Monkeys come to mind. Or you could keep Crayfish. I always had one in my acquariums as a kid. Just feed em worms.
Now, onto the big pot and Old Bay....yummmm.
