Default Best neighborhoods in Columbia MD

Hello, I am currently looking for a townhouse, and Columbia is one of my possibilites. However, all I know about Columbia or Howard county in general, is that they have great school systems, which is very important to me. I am looking into buying a townhouse, can anyone point me to the better neighborhoods.

Thanks

All the neighborhoods in Columbia are pretty nice. You can't go wrong with what you select. I lived in the area around Columbia Rd off route 29 and its very nice and upscale and easy access to route 95..........

I have family that lives in a townhouse off of Snowden River and they haven't had any problems there. There are quite a few townhouse communities down that road, the only problem I see is the traffic but I quess you get used to it. Also note that you will pay for them, I think those are going for a single family price house somewhere else.

Not all the neighborhoods are great- Owen Brown is not-so-hot sometimes, and there's an area around Tamar that's not great either- the crime is worse in those areas. Most of Columbia is great, and there are townhome communities in Ellicott City and Elkridge that are great too. If you're interested in a home, I'd drive around and look at the area and see what the grocery stores look like, and what people in the area are doing. Some areas have older teens who hang out in the streets, and take over the playgrounds.

Default Kings Contrivance

Most of the Columbia is nice. King's Contrivance is one of the best neighborhoods in Columbia, MD. There are some 3b townhouses at around $250-300K.

I second KC as a good spot. I also have liked looking at the River Hill area, a newer village.

River Hill/Pointers Run area is one of the most "desirable" areas in Columbia. The price is also higher though. Of course, what's "best" is subjective. But usually the relative price is a good indicator.

King's Annoyance has the most absurd notion of how to use roundabouts. I drove through it once. Never again! I wonder how long anyone's car lasts, who lives there.
