I might be taking a job in Severna Park and I'm interested in both Laurel and Columbia to live. I know Columbia fairly well but I don't know Laurel well at all. Would I get more bang for my buck in Laurel? I'd like to be close to DC (within 35 miles) and AA County doesn't appeal to me. These 2 areas seem to have a decent amount going on for restaurants and activities (Columbia at least).

If proximity to DC is your goal have you considered Bowie? Both Bowie and Laurel (proper, Laurel extends into other counties) are in PG county. I prefer Bowie.

I live in Laurel, and I would prefer both Columbia and Bowie, for restaurants*etc. but without knowing what type of accommodation*you're*looking for.........
That said, traffic permitting I can be at the Capitol in 20 minutes from south Laurel. Similar for Bowie, I believe.

I just need a 1 or 2 bedroom apartment. I haven't spent much time in Bowie but its usually highly recommended as well.

We lived in Laurel for 10 years before moving up here. It's just OK, and I've heard the crime has gotten worse.

Even though it's in AA you might want to consider Odenton. Not much there except lots of new apartments, but it's 10 minutes to Laurel, Crofton, and 15 to Bowie and Annapolis, 30 minutes to DC by train, plus the easiest commute to Severna Park.

They're making strides toward improving Laurel, but a lot of it still feels a bit rough around the edges to me. I definitely prefer Columbia.

Just curious but what about AA county doesn't appeal to you? If you didn't say that I would have recommended Crofton.

Yup, me, too. Right down the street from Bowie and easy access to Rt3/50/97
