Any Guidance Counselors in Prince George County Public Schools on this board? If so, can you tell me about your experiences as a guidance counselors in the school? What role do guidance counselors play in PGC schools and what are the students and the administration like? Thanks

Default Re:

I am NOT a guidance counselor, but I am friends with the one that works at my pg county elementary school. As a guidance counselor, she talks to children who are having problems or if abuse is suspected, she rides in the ambulance to the hospital if children get sick, she does home visits when we can't get parents to come to the school or talk with us for various reasons. She also teaches a lesson once a week for 30 minutes to each class on different social subjects like sharing and stealing, etc. It also seems to be her job to get the community involved with our school and she arranges career week. She loves her job, and says there is never a dull moment, but it does seem to be a very stressful, maybe dangerous job (when she has to do the home visits).

Sounds more like a Social worker and cheerleader to get the parents to be active in there own kids lives. She is a guidance counselor right, does she ever do that? I remember when guidance counselors gave , well, "guidance" for your school career...period.

I went to PG schools and graduated in 1985....they weren't the best schools then and seems to have gotten even worse. Too bad...because PG could be a nice place to raise a family but I wouldn't in this day and age.....its also too bad because at one time I always thought I would.
