Hi everyone. Where's the best place to live? Would be a temp relocation (about 6 months) to the area. The work is based in Towson but would need relatively good access to BWI airport for a couple of times a week.

Prefer an apartment complex that is tucked away, newish, safe in an area with lots of greenery and trees - prefer a mid-rise type building that is well run, residential, family oriented but schools not an issue; not a college dorm type vibe. Had heard the area around BWI may fit the bill. Have looked at Linthicum Heights, Hanover. Did have concerns re the drive to Towson. What are some other in between towns that may work?

Have also looked at Towson but again wondered about the drive? 15-20 miles away is fine as long as the drive is no more than 25 to 30 minutes. Budget is flexible, understand the apt may be at the higher end but if there are some areas that only the locals know, appreciate hearing about them.

Also, saw many many complexes online and ruled out many due to extensive negative reviews about things such as lack of maintenance, creepy crawlies, questionable end of lease practices, super thin walls, floods, lack of parking. Thanks!!

Pikesville, outside the beltway would be splitting the distance between Towson and BWI. You know Baltimore is a war zone correct? Stay outta there.

So far you got very good advice. I would look at apartments in downtown Columbia. Every amenity one could want is in walking distance, and BWI is just a few minutes down the road. Towson is further away; traffic and travel time depends on what hours you travel.

Stick to Towson, Pikesville or the Roland Park area, because nothing intermediate will be nicer. Bite the bullet when you drive to BWI. Beltway traffic is awful, but it is the best way to get to the airport area.

Or use the light rail which is close enough to Towson to call it "convenient"

The OP should check with their employer whether there is shuttle service from the light rail stop at BWI.

Thanks guys! Great info. Will check it out. Do know to avoid Baltimore city, yet some of the places that seem suburban have a Baltimore city address. Columbia did seem interesting but wondered if driving through or that close to Baltimore would be problematic.

Meh. Absent kids and schools and absent purchasing (vs rentals)...
most of the city has pockets that can be really great.

Start with the work address.
Even if you drive mostly... see where that is vs York Rd and the transit bus line (#8?).
Almost anywhere close to that corridor will be fine. LINK

I appreciate this info!! I was hopeful of something like that - where yeah the city is "bad" but if there are no kids or school worries...
