Default Moving to Perryville area

Anybody have information on Perryville area. We are looking into moving to that area. We have visited a couple times and it seems quiet. We love the old homes in the area.

Anyone have any info or thoughts on the area, things to do, employment, crime activity, etc.

Thanks for your help.

Lived there for a year when I was with Americorps NCCC. We were stationed at the VA Medical Center, which technically classifies as "Perry Point" being an area unto itself, but it's basically Perryville. The VA complex is probably the largest enterprise in Perryville. It's huge.

Real estate is very fairly priced by MD standards... Perryville is a well kept secret. It's actually a very pretty area being right along the river. I am VERY fond of Port Deposit which is just down the road from Perryville.. Look there too.

No real crime to speak of other than the typical stuff that can be expected anywhere. Most of the "old houses" tend to be owned by middle income folks.

Perryville is the very last stop on the MARC train line, so you're only 40 minutes or so out of Baltimore, about 1 hour 20 minutes from DC by train. Lots of folks make the Baltimore commute and I know of one patient soul who commutes to DC from Perryville. New York City is about a 4 hour drive from P'ville.

The main city near Perryville is Aberdeen, right across the bridge. Of course, any conceivable service you could possibly want is there. It’s a military town, so there are a lot of servicemen. If for some reason, you are averse to noise, be warned that you are within earshot of the Aberdeen Proving Grounds and, during a few select times, the booms from weapons testing can be prominent.

You’re very close to Delaware (about a 15-20 minute drive) which is very nice for tax free shopping.

It's a great area. I wouldn't hesitate to raise a family there, and i'm the picky sort as far as where I choose to live.

I grew up in Cecil County. I lived outside of Elkton for till I was 20. Then we moved to Rising Sun. A lot of people make fun of Cecil County since it is so "country" compared to the rest of MD (Baltimore, DC, Annapolis), but I love it. Houses are relatively cheap, but the education isn't the greatest. My parents opted to send me to private school in Delaware. There is some racial tension. A few days ago some kids spray-painted racial slurs on Perryville High School. But other than that, Cecil County and Perryville are great, especially if you love small towns.

a person that lives in an area will know all the dirty little secrets that an outsider might not ever find out about! Perryville has curb appeal because it is on the river (has had to evacuate when the dam threatened to give!); small, quaint, historical. Active Fire and Rescue organization. No public medical or doctor offices in the city center. One town paid police officer (when he's off duty you can't even leave a message) - Perryville is finally getting a food store and there's a chain pharmacy (again, "finally"). If I was moving to Cecil County, I'd move to Elkton
