Oakland is in Garrett County in Western Maryland. Garrett County is mountainous, sparsely populated, and conservative. Most of the locals are natives or long time residents, although there is a evergrowing number of people being drawn in by Deep Creek Lake.
Oakland is the county seat so it has things like McDonalds, supermarkets, Walmart. Most major shopping would have to be done in Morgantown, WV or Cumberland, MD each about an hour away. I think house prices in Oakland itself are probably very reasonable by Maryland standards. What else would you like to know?
