Bowie and Upper Marlboro is too expensive and both have very active police force. Its sad to say but PG county is not the first and will not be the last to increase tax, cost of living which will push out the criminals.
Montogmery county,FairFax,Northern VA and DC have all done this.
Why is it a big issue if PG county does it?
Charles County and PG county are 10-15 minutes by car. Most criminals do not drive to commit a crime. They would rather walk.
Most criminals commit crimes in their own neighborhood.

You are very mistaken here. Over 90% of the crimes committed in Charles are from people living in PG or DC. They don't have a problem driving at all.

Do you have any evidence of this? Or are you just making up a story?
I think you just made up a story/number.
I can tell you this majority of the crimes in Pg County happened on the border of PG and DC. If you notice on your crime map the areas with crimes are areas that are within walking distance of DC.
DC and PG County are both pushing out criminals by increasing property tax and cost of living while Charles County remains very cheap to live.
You can get a twonhome in Charles County in a decent area for under 200k.
You can never get that in both DC and PG county.

While I don't personally have proof of that - I know several cops, a prosecutor and my friend works dispatch in the county and I am going off what they tell me as well as reading the crime reports and seeing "so and so from Bowie, DC, etc. arrested for whatever" You cannot get a decent townhouse for under 200 - Actually if you see any for that price, they are not in good areas, but I am not sure where you are going with this argument - you say that you cannot live this cheaply anywhere in PG or DC, yet the crime there is still higher than Charles. I guess you are trying to say the crime spilling into Charles wouldn't be so if it was more expensive, but then what about the crime that still widely exists in PG even though the cost is higher? My point was to simply say pushing crime to other counties is not the answer - it should be to make doing a crime less appealing, tougher laws, etc. Drunk driving still exists but as the laws have gotten so much stricter over the years, it has decreased. People realize that it's not worth it. There will always be crime, but seeing it decrease everywhere would be ideal, not just push it somewhere else and let them deal with it. Also, if you check real estate the same type of townhouses (older ones - only 2 story without a garage) that are going for mid 200's in Charles are going for the same thing in Upper Marlboro. If you search houses between 300k-400k in Bowie there are 209 - the same search for Waldorf is 287. The pricing is about the same. On houses between 700k and 1 million, all of PG has 117 listed and all of Charles only has 56 listed, but PG has way more people, therefore more housing than Charles. So really the pricing is not that much different, looking at the county as a whole. Of course both counties have areas that are much more expensive.

Housing Outlook 2006
Prince George's County
By Krissah Williams
Washington Post Staff Writer
Sunday, March 26, 2006; Page R30
Despite steep housing price increases last year, Prince George's County remains the most affordable jurisdiction in the region.
Prices in the county rose 29 percent in 2005, on a par with the neighboring District of Columbia. The median sales price was $287,000, up from $223,000 the previous year, according to a Washington Post analysis based on state sales records for single-family houses and townhouses. In comparison, prices increased 20 percent from 2003 to 2004, and 10 percent from 2002 to 2003.
Upper Marlboro's Zip code 20772, a suburban community in central Prince George's, did the most volume, accounting for 1,046 of the 12,538 houses sold in the county. The median sale price in that Zip was $292,000.

Charles County, Maryland
Home prices in Charles County fell slightly last year, while the number of transactions dropped sharply.
The county's median home price dropped 1 percent, to $325,000, from $329,900 in 2006, according to a Washington Post analysis based on state sales records for single-family houses and townhouses. Condominium sales were not included.
In recent years, Charles County has attracted people who want to move up to better homes but were priced out of Montgomery County and Northern Virginia. "I have seen . . . in the last five years that Charles County has become part" of the Washington area, said Boyce, who has worked in the area for two decades.
WOW LOOKS LIKE THEY WEREN'T RUNNING FROM PG COUNTY BECAUSE IT WAS TOO EXPENSIVE!!!!
Also see link below for complete tax rate. Real (real estate) taxes in all of PG county are cheaper than Charles.

UPPER MARLBORO, Md. -
Prince George's County officials say a Wall Street bond rating agency has upgraded the county's bonds to the top rating, a move that will likely make it easier and cheaper for the county to borrow money.
County Executive Jack Johnson said Tuesday that Standard & Poor's gave the county a AAA rating after meeting with county officials three weeks ago.
A high bond rating usually means governments pay lower interest rates on the bonds they issue. Johnson says the new rating will be applied to $110 million in general obligation bonds to be sold this week.
Johnson says the rating is a sign of the economic health of Prince George's, built in part on big projects such as the $4 billion National Harbor development on the Potomac River.

Upper Marlboro's Zip code 20772, a suburban community in central Prince George's, did the most volume, accounting for 1,046 of the 12,538 houses sold in the county. The median sale price in that Zip was $292,000.
Capitol Heights' Zip code 20743, in an older urban part of central Prince George's, was the second most active, with 932 houses sold with a median price of $184,125. It was followed closely by Fort Washington's Zip code 20744, where 848 houses sold for a median price of $306,500.
Donald L. Frederick, a Re/Max 100 agent based in Camp Springs, explained that those areas draw a mix of first-time buyers looking for affordable homes in Prince George's, where prices are lower than in the rest of the Washington region, and others looking for investment property.
"I have never seen so many people outside of Prince George's looking to buy homes here," said Frederick, who has been selling real estate in the county for 31 years.
He said Fort Washington has became a particular draw because construction had recently begun on the nearby National Harbor development, which will include restaurants, stores, hotels and a convention center. House prices in that part of the county rose 25 percent last year.
Capitol Heights, Zip code 20743, was the least expensive part of the county, which real estate agents said explains the high number of sales there. That area has consistently been one of the most affordable in the region, but even there house prices are climbing. Between 2004 and 2005 the median sales price in Capitol Heights rose 27 percent, to $184,125 -- still, one of a scant number of Zip codes in the region where the median price remains below $200,000.
The county's most expensive Zip code technically was the portion of Silver Spring's 20904 that is in Prince George's, where one house sold for $799,000. However, with just one sale, that is statistically insignificant. Next was Glenn Dale's Zip code 20769, where 98 houses sold for a median price of $424,000.
On the whole, the number of houses sold in the county decreased 5 percent. David E. Maclin, an agent with Realty Executives in Upper Marlboro and president of the Prince George's County Association of Realtors, said that is a result of people "holding on to their property and utilizing the equity in their property. It becomes an investment. People are adding on to their house [by] putting another level in," rather than shopping for a larger, more expensive house elsewhere.
