Point blank i think Abingdon would be your best choice. Located between Bel Air and Edgewood. High School goes to Edgewood High, but it's a pretty good school.

Default Think again!

Edgewood has a problem with a small area behind the edgewood shopping center.(Brookside drive)near the HARCO police department,by the way.The
crime you see on the news come from that area of edgewood, 95% of the
time. You can,t say that all of edgewood is bad!Like, not all of joppa is bad.
Edgewood has homes that range from $170,000 to $500,000 plus and also government funded housing. The problem has been and always will be the
government helping to dummy down the population. But!Harford county and
edgewood will be alot better in the future. The county will start building a
large police department to help with rise in population from the military base
realignment.I think you gamble everytime you move to a new area and you
can judge on the outside, but you never know how your neighbors will be!

Example:Part of the problem with that low income area in edgewood
(brookside drive).Students from fallston, belair and joppa visit
that area looking for drugs.

You would be doing your family a just favor reconsidering and thinking more of the whitemarch area the school are not good here and crime is high. It wont be long before i will be out of here and hopefully bk in howard county

OK, I just want to let you know that there are places in Howard County (ex: Columbia) that are worse than anything you will find in the worst part of Edgewood. Every area has it's "bad" areas, and horrible things happen everywhere. Aberdeen is not a bad place to live! Edgewood happens to be the Harford County city that is most often mentioned on the Baltimore news, for it's crime.

Edgewood secondary schools are low achieving on state testing. They have been placed on corrective action, etc. with MSDE. Most of Abingdon goes into Edgewood at the secondary level. A good part of Abingdon also attends William Paca/Old Post Rd. for Elem. and this is a Title I school (predominantly low income and receives extra funds from the gov't) Any school is what you make it though. I am a proud Aberdeen grad who went on to earn a Master's Degree.

Default Joppatowne, not Joppa

although edgewood is very high in crime, don't think others are not the same. I live in joppatowne and it was starting to become very, bad in the past year or two there has been a few stabbings around my neighborhood and great amount of drug traffic. Joppatowne high is by far the worst school and has most amount of crime in harCo. Everyday i drive by there are "ALWAY'S" cop's. and you can feel safe even goin to the royal farms because you dont know if it will be robbed or not. With younger friends, I know what goe's on. I have heard about the stories about gettin gun's pulled on and robbed just walkin. it need's to get better!!

Columbia is bad??? This is news to me. When did this happen? Columbia is a very nice city. There are plenty of people who will agree to that. I used to work in Edgewood and believe me, there is no comparison.

Riverside hasn't gotten much mention here, but it's a nice area to live with a family. I lived there myself for a few years and we had a great home that was reasonably priced on a quiet street. There are tons of kids, areas with playgrounds, walking trails, and lots of trees. It is right off I-95 centered between Aberdeen and Abingdon. You can pretty much anywhere you'd want to go in harford County in about 15 minutes tops. Morning rush hour to Baltimore County is harsh though, so beware if you have jobs there.
Look for Belcamp/Riverside and I think you'll find something that suits you.

Anywhere you go is going to have hoods. Edgewood isnt' even all bad, its just bad in the hoods. If you dont plan on moving to the hood, then you dont have anything to worry about. Harford County is a nice area
