That is true!I,ll keep saying this over and over. The only problem is with a
small section behind EDGEWATER SHOPPING CENTER just off RT.40.Joppatown and edgewood above rt.24 to abington is pretty good.

Joppatowne high is by far the worst school and has most amount of crime in harCo. Everyday i drive by there are "ALWAY'S" cop's. and you can feel safe even goin to the royal farms because you dont know if it will be robbed or not. With younger friends, I know what goe's on. I have heard about the stories about gettin gun's pulled on and robbed just walkin. it need's to get better!!
Your part of the problem if you know so much about drugs and gangs and don,t report it!

Havre de Grace especially has some issues. Why do I tell you that?
You might have lived here at one time, but your information is WAY off base and irrelevent to today. I have lived in both Abingdon and HdG. The crime spill over from the thugs in 'Edgehood' and Joppa is horrible. HdG might have it's petty crap going on here and there, but the worst that has happened in a long time is the "garden gnome stealing spree" and the freak that was knifing folks at his work.

I was referring to the Tranquility Place Townhomes (Section 8) that used to be off of Revolution St, but they're not there anymore, so that would explain why you don't see it today. HdG is A LOT nicer than it used to be prior to the late-90's.

hahaha Columbia.
Edgewood's bad neighborhoods are WAY worse than Columbia's. Even though Harford County does not actually track the "number" of crime in Edgewood, after finding about 40% of calls for help are in the Edgewood area, you can judge the crime just the same. If there are about 1,200 assaults in HarCo last year, using reason, I could fairly suggest about 400-500 of them happened in the edgewood area with a population of only 23,000. I am NOT exagerating. Aberdeen and Havre De Grace each have about 100 assaults, in comparison, with the next-worse pockets, and about 10,000 less people.

Perhaps to today, yes. I'm aware that Havre De Grace is rather nice now in comparison. I'm refferring to the 80s and 90s, before the suburbs came to town, and when the PROJECTS were still here. It was NOT a nice time to live there. The population actually managed to drop to 7,000 from people leaving to avoid that **** during the 80s. In 1993 I had bullet holes placed in my car while parking by the HIGH SCHOOL. A "gang fight" had gone down, and apparently I was in the wrong place at the wrong time. There's a reason they tore down the projects. But it's whatever, not bashing anybody in HdG, it's a bettering area. The crime rate has steadily dropped annually since 2002.

When I subbed in Howard County the teachers there always used to talk about how Columbia was such a ghetto. After spending more time with these teachers, I learned they all lived in really nice, expensive neighborhoods and were extremely sheltered. Columbia is nice, people who think it is bad have NO idea what bad can be.

Exactly. Kind of like how people in Bel Air talk down on "Edgehood","Aberdump",and "Havre Disgrace" all the time. They're too scared to even LOOK at the "bad" neighborhoods. Like the guy who said every place has hoods, that is true. Example: Havre De Grace has "hoods", but everywhere outside of them is pretty nice. I just wouldn't recommend walking through them at night, for I've done so and had trouble. Same goes for Edgewood and any other "bad" part of town. Even Bel Air has it's version of "the wrong side of the tracks".

Lovin Joppatowne is on a distinguished road
Love it.....why does Joppatowne always get such negative publicity. When is the last time that you read about Joppatown in the news? When is the last time that you heard of a shooting or violent crime in Joppatowne? People need to stop giving Joppatowne such a bad rap just because it shares a border with Edgewood (which isn't all that bad either, just a couple bad neighborhoods). I love how Hrt2hrt listed Joppatowne as the second worst town to live in in HarCo. Last I checked, Aberdeen wasn't really all that safe a place to live (in some areas). I am a young, college educated female who has lived in Joppatowne for the past 5 years (moved out of Bel Air to Joppa). I walk my dog at all times if the day and night without a fear of anything happening to me. I love the parks and we take advantage of the water views and access almost every weekend. Location, location, location. Before you take the advice of those who have never lived here, come and see for yourself. If you are used to living in high class, this is not the place for you, as you will not find many of the stuffy, snotty types. Even those people who own the expensive waterfront houses are not stuck up like many of the Bel Airians who think their stuff doesn't stink, if ya know what I mean. Joppatown is built of hard working, blue collar families with moderately priced housing and convenient to shopping and entertainment. Schools may be a concern to some but HarCo and BaltiCo offer numerous private schools and even a public school outside of the district in Harford Technical High School.

its starting to become worse now that edgewood and joppatowne are combining. there gang's everywhere you look. i can't help but mention that i even see gang's forming infront of joppatowne's libary.
Last time I checked.....hanging out in front of the library, does not make you a gang member. All of a sudden there is talk of gangs in Edgewood and immediately every group of kids that you see hanging somewhere has turned into a gang......the gang members in Edgewood are easily spotted, mostly decked out to the tee in all red with bandannas somewhere on their person. The kids at the library are just that......kids hanging out. Where else do you want them to go? The park? Then there would be "gangs" at the park. People really need to wake up and see things for what they really are. Don't believe all that you hear. Why don't the fights in the Bel Air bars, where people get beat down make the news? Because the media has done a fantastic job at making all of southern HarCo look like a war zone. Yes, there's crime....as there is in Bel Air and all other areas of every county in the country. My stepkids live in Abingdon and will attend Edgewood High but we have no real worries because we are good parents, know where our kids are and who their friends are. The kids that are running the streets are those whose parents don't care where their kids are or what they are doing.
