Hello. I have recently moved to Cumberland MD from Baltimore. I was doing a general search online for Mobile home information when I came across the ignorant post by Iscalder about Cumberland and its trailer parks and shacks. I right away joined this site so that I could take the time to reply to this very narrow minded persons comments.
She's a racist, malcontent who is obviously also a product of one of the many failed public school systems in the area...her ramblings rarely merit observation

My experience is my experience. When I did drive to Cumberland I did see plenty of Trailer parks and tiny shack houses by the highway. Does this not exist in Cumberland?
Yes it does exist in Cumberland. This is not my opinion this is facts. SO what if you live in trailer park I am not judgin gyou I am saying when I went to CUmberland I saw plenty of trailer parks with run don homes and tiny shacks by the highway. I do not see the problem if that was what I saw with my own eyes.

Here is Iscalder's original message
"Cumberland Maryland needs a lot of help. I drove thru there on my way to Ohio and it is horrible. It has a lot of trailer Parks and shack homes. I have never seen shack homes in Maryland. I was surprise. It looks like a totally different state. I can you call that safe living in a shack home or trailer parks."
Obviously the comment was more than just an observation about the housing stock. Commments like "Cumberland Maryland needs a lot of help." and "I can you call that safe living a shack home or trailer parks" are obviously value judgments.
There are trailers in Allegany County, most of them are not in trailer parks per say, but I could show you a few. As for "shacks" if you mean small run down wooden house, there are many of them too.

We LOVE Ellicott City. It's a very, very nice place to live, if you can afford it. And if you like newer areas, try Clarksville, which is just a minute or two to the west of Ellicott City and Columbia. Those three towns are all pretty solid. The EC/Columbia area was #4 in the nation for top places to live in Money Magazine 2006. The cost of living is a little high, but not as high as in downtown DC, and at least it's safe to walk around at night. My wife, who is a pretty, young blonde girl, wouldn't normally go running on a dark path at night, but we feel perfectly safe doing so on the many miles worth of jogging paths that wind through the woods and residential areas of Columbia.
Oh, Glenelg is kind of a ritzier extension of Columbia, and it's pretty nice as well.

The gem of the Shore is Easton Maryland followed by Saint Michaels and Chestertown. All have good restraurants, fine outdoor activities, the arts and culture. Because these are all small towns, there are no crime wave trends here.

Reason: Realtor solicitation.

Thanks - this is nice to know. My aunt and uncle live in EC, I haven't been there since 1991. I have a cousin who lives in Elkridge. It was nice there.

Not so sure about that!

If you're ok with small towns, Id push for Sykesville or Woodbine. Woodbine doesn't even have a stop light within their limits, but people leave their cars unlocked with keys inside it, just because it's that safe. It's a small area often overlooked, but a true gem. It's not far from Westminster or Eldersburg, so there's plenty to do in a very short drive, also.
I'd say pass on Sparrows Point, too.

As far as Carroll County goes, you must be very careful if you have kids due to the heroin problem. Especially in Westminster. It's beautiful to drive through, but they have a terrible problem with people traveling down to Baltimore to get heroin. I'm sure that affects the rate of burglary and theft there.
