Default A Comparison of PG County

Hello everyone. I might be the youngest member of the forum at 17, but anyways can PG County be compared to something such as California in some ways. For instance Northern California and PG County seem to be overall nicer areas and less problems in terms of crime than their southern counterparts, for instance Oxen Hill, Capital Heights and all can be in some ways be compared to parts of Los Angeles like Comptom or those areas. I just see something proportional between the two.

Though I do not understand why the Southern parts of PG County are bad; I visit people there not often and like Iverson Mall, but it is not as diverse as the North part of the County.

I would tend to disagree ,any links or stats for factual basis?

LA really isn't that bad. It has a lot more crime simply because millions of people live there.

Iverson Mall is just outside of DC pretty much and is not a great area...hell it wasn't a great area when I left 12 years ago. Thats also not really the southern part of the county either...yes its south of DC but Brandywine , Baden , Croom are the Southern Parts of the county to me.

Your comparison of PG to California doesn't work. PG is the way it is for one reason. It has the biggest border to DC of any of the counties that border it and the communities in DC that are along the border are very undesirable areas as well and overflowed into PG mostly starting in the 70's. IMO.

What is wrong with you. It seems you are just here only to post about PG county when you have never lived in the county. Why not post about crimes and hate crimes/KKK in Waldorf.

Now back to the post, PG county is not comparable to California. PG county do have very wonderful areas and the county government are working very hard to reduce crimes. In the areas with crimes the county have started increasing property tax/increase new construction of new residential communities/shopping centers and getting rid of all section8. I say give the county another 5yrs and you will see a big difference in crimes/School system. As you might know the lower income residents are been forced to move out of Pg county because the County government have increased cost of living.

PG county has had more hate crime incidents than Charles...
Table 13, MARYLAND - Hate Crime Statistics, 2006

...and the incident that got publicity - surprise! it wasn't the KKK running around town!

LA PLATA, Md. (Sept. 11, 2007) - The Charles County Sheriff’s Office today announced the arrest of four juveniles on charges of spray-painting offensive language in a residential area in August.

The accused juveniles are males between the ages of 14 and 16 and all live in Waldorf. Three of them are black, the fourth is white. They were charged on Saturday, Sept. 8 with four counts of committing a hate crime and 21 counts of destruction of property valued at more than $500. All of the victims were black.

Let us look at DC 10yrs ago it was flooded with lower income families now DC government increased construction with upscale shopping/dining. DC government increased property tax and continued building new construction such as Condos. Now in 2008 DC is majority middle to upper/rich families. Don't youthink you should sue DC. They did those lower income families wrong. I see no one pointing fingers at DC government.
Why not sue DC government?

Lets look at Montgomery County/Northern Virginia/Fairfax County and so on. The same thing happened to these counties 10yrs ago that happened to DC they increased property tax developed upscale shopping/Communities and price the lower income families out of these counties.
Why not sue these counties?

Ok I see if PG county try to improve the county then the county is wrong.
You are the same person who is bashing the county and when the county is improving you bash the county government for wanting to improve the county.

Well since I've never been to California I couldn't tell you what it compares to. However I suggest you come and take a visit yourself. P.G. is going through a change. Like D.C. they are trying to break up the lower income families and develop a lot of mixed income development. Look here is the real deal. It's got nice parts and the boarder cities that along the D.C. and P.G. line tend to have highest crime rates. You will get a lot of mixed opinions on this board about the County. Ignore Giantone and Fjennel. They tend to bash P.G. Iscalder and I tend to uplift the county. I grew up there and it is a good county. Now is the bad. The school system needs help, but I hear they are trying to turn things around. The crime is kinda high. Not as bad as D.C. but both P.G. and D.C. are not nearly as bad as they use to be. The Good. Lots of billion dollar developments to spur economic growth and we are the Nations wealthiest black county in the U.S. My suggestion is to come and take a look at P.G. they are the cheapest county in the immediate D.C. area. Some will argue Charles, St. Mary and Calvert County. Well they are all at least 40 minutes away from D.C. With traffic an hour. So if you enjoy driving those are all nice choices as well. Come out for a week and visit and see for yourself.

Yes ignore me - I only post a ton of facts and links to information so people can read and educate themselves. I don't feel that I bash PG, I just post info and usually its because people ask or I have to prove someone wrong that won't post facts. I agree, you should see for yourself and also research information for yourself which is why people usually ask for opinions on this forum as part of their research before moving somewhere.
