Default International teacher wanting a job in maryland

Hi I am currently trying to find a job in either Maryland or Georgia as an international teacher. However applying online is proving to be a challenge as one is required to give information on state certification and a state address. please help me to get around this. Any ideas! Thank you!

A state address can be accomplished by obtaining a PO Box in a post office of a city that you may intend on moving to. We did that when moving into our new home and that way all our important papers had an updated address yet we didn't have to have a house there yet to use it.

Good luck!

Default International Teacher looking for Job in MD

My wife and I just relocated to MD from overseas teaching as well. I have a CA teaching certificate as well as a Masters in Education with 10 years experience. I contacted the MD State Department of Education (MSDE) last March, 2006 and they told me that it wouldn't be a problem to have my certification transferred to a MD certificate as long as I had at least 3yrs experience teaching and an out of state cert. I sent all my paperwork in last June (they received it June 3rd) and am still waiting for my MD credentials. It's been much longer than the 4-6 weeks that they told me it would originally take. I'm telling you this not to complain, but to let you know that if you don't have an MD certification but are planning on applying for one, DON'T do it through the MSDE.

I would recommend that you contact the school district where you plan on teaching, either through email or through phone, and communicate with the person(s) who hire for the level you teach, i.e., elementary, middle, or high school. This will solve the problem of not being able to complete the online application, I had the same problem, and if they hire you they can apply for your MD certification for you. It seems that MSDE doesn't do the applications in the order they are received, but by priority and of course they give priority to the school districts so you would receive yours much quicker.

Please don't take this posting as a negative rant. It's been my first year teaching back in the states in over 10 years and with the exception of my experience with MSDE the relocation to MD has been great.

Good Luck,
H. Williams
