Cheverly is a very sketchy area. I was there to do doing a site visit for work. It did not clean at all and was run down. Don't risk it.

Some parts of Cheverly are nice. The entire area isn't sketchy. We know friends who live there and they have not experienced any crime. They own a home though. Don't know if there are any apartment complexes.

Also, Cheverly has its own police department and a Metro Station that allows parking, which is nice. It's also pretty close to DC if you'll be working there.

You should visit the area to determine for yourself.

I think Cheverly is beautiful! Although it's close to enough crime-ridden areas like Landover and Bladensburg I think it's still a nice place to live. There are churches and parks and schools all within walking distance. My children used to take karate classes there. I would have bought a home there if I could afford it. I don't know what part of Cheverly would be considered run-down. The Tuxedo end or the apartment area?

The single family home areas are nice. The apartment complexes are pretty sketchy. If you could buy or rent a single family home there, you would be fine.

Cheverly itself is fine. It is a very quaint community with many all brick cape cod and older style colonial homes. There is a strong community spirit within the area.

The state's attorney and the front runner for the next county executive resides in the area. However, the surrounding vicinity outside of Cheverly is not desirable.
