Thinking About Moving To Eastern Shore, Salisbury, MD From NJ

I think the "problems" some have with the Eastern Shore is universal to alot of resort and rural areas.
There is an adjustment period if you have lived on fast food, fast driving, fast living and generally a hurried pace of life for decades...I see that in the people here in Montg County...Their eyes are vacant as they are totally obvious to anyone around them, chatting endlessly on their cell phones...Ive never had anyone say hello to me in a supermarket in Silver Spring mainly becuse they dont even know Im there..
Ive had several people smile and speak to me on the Shore during grocery shopping...And this is before Ive even moved here...A hunter outside the sporting goods store on Kent Island talked with my husband for 10 minutes, making sure he had the right directions to a restuarant...WHERE would you get that over the bridge?

The Shore has a slower pace of life...Locals are proud of their towns and communities and dont want people coming in to ruin it..I lived on Cape Cod for 6 years and the area was EXACKLY like the Eastern Shore, both in culture and in slower pace of life..,,Personally I cant wait to leave the crowds and the noise and the rudeness and get to the Shore myself..

You do have to be content with living with less "conveniences" down the road from your house and learn to slow down!.....Alot of young people have trouble with that, from what Ive seen in the rude drivers and need for instant gratification, glitz, and places to constantly entertain them....For those of us who crave quiet and woods and wildlife and country roads and water, we are at a different place in our lives from most of the young masses who love the city.....THe DC area is great for 20 somethings but not so good for 40 somethings..However,. the Shore is a great place to be for us older folks who desire a quality of life over how many Starbucks there are within 2 miles of you..

I know this reply is very late. However, I highly do not recomend you to move to Salisbury or anyother place on Delmarva. First off, I was born in Salisbury, and was raised in Snow Hill. Its terrible. I suggest you move to a different area, such as Annapolis, Bowie, Or baltimore. Salisbury is the worst city in maryland based on crime rates. Snow Hill is a place that you do not want to move to espically if you are from new jersey. there are 2409 people in the town. and 95 percent of them will start rumours, they will talk about you, everyone who grows up thinks they are better than the people with a normal life. They stand up for "country people", and they dont accept outsiders. Its a very sterotypical small town. It would be hell for your kids if they had to be raised on delmarva, espically in snow hill. Stay away from this place! The public schools are very good. If you consider a private school, dont consider it. Schools such as Worcester Prep, Salisbury Christian, and HOlly grove are horrible schools! Delmarva also isnt a place that you want to find a job. It isnt a "thriving" place. If you havent moved already, please. GO to the western shore of maryland, pennslyvania, orrrr... JUST STAY IN NEW JERSEY!

DON'T DO IT!!! Move to Anne Arundel County (Annapolis) or Baltimore County (Towson) if you must live on the eastern shore, Queene Anees County is great but the rest of the shore I wouldn't do it!,

I currently live in Baltimore and work in Salisbury, MD. Because of this rare situation, I get to see the city life and the small town life on a regular basis. I prefer the small town. Perhaps this is because I grew up in a small town. On the positive side, If you decide to move to the Eastern Shore then you are still within driving distance of several large cities. I am a licensed realtor in Maryland, so I could help you find a house in Maryland.

Annapolis seems to be the best-rated area closest to Salisbury, but how long of a commute are we talking? Mapquest says about 1.5 hours. Not sure that I want to spend 3 hours a day on the road for work!

That's about right. If the Bay Bridge isn't having problems. If that happens then hunker down for a very long day.

Salisbury is a horrible place to live! Period. About the mega-chicken farms: forget about the smell (it is pretty bad)—what about the contaminated drinking water (miles away in DE, for example)?!? Wake up!!! Objectively, Sby is a ****hole! But keep drinking the kool-aid, since it’s the only way to stay sane, I suppose, if you live here. Every young professional I know who has moved to the city for work is trying to find a job elsewhere. And just to be clear: Sby is not a “college town” (SU is very disconnected from the city), it’s not a “beach town” (maybe Berlin is?), and it’s not a “farming community” (unless you count the history of slavery in the area; in fact, as one of the oldest farming areas in the country, the land and soil is shot). Fair warning to anyone considering moving to Sby....stay away. And for those who praise its nonexistent redeeming qualities....wake up! (And maybe start doing something to improve the place instead of living in la-la land).
