Default Columbia SAHMs

Hello, my husband and I just moved to Columbia. I am trying to figure out my career situation and am pondering what it would be like to be a SAHM (stay-at-home mom). I was wondering what SAHMs do with their time once their children start school. I would think the experience of being a SAHM would be fairly dependent upon the community you live in. Are there a lot of fun groups, volunteer opportunities, and/or other activities in Columbia? I've read in nationwide surveys that most mothers--SAHMs and working mothers--said that the ideal situation would be to work part-time. Any thoughts/input/advice? Thanks!

A lot of school, especially elementary schools are eager for parent volunteers. From a lunch time or recess monitor to classroom helpers, there's a lot of volunteer postions. Maybe check out your local library for any other resources. I don't know where in Columbia you are, but there's a library off Cradlerock, and one by the mall.

The public libraries here love volunteers and it's a great place to find out about community /faimly activities and meet local residents. Volunteering there is very low stress and you'll find lots of great books and dvds to check out and take home.

I am currently a SAHM, however my son is not in school yet. I plan on going to work as a teacher once he enters school. Right now our days are full of different activities. There are playgroups and support groups for stay at home moms. Howard County has a moms clubs PATH maybe you can get more information there
