Default 22yr old moving to Annapolis, help!

Hello,

I am a young engineer moving to Annapolis and need to get some information about the city.

I would like to know if any of you know of any apartment finder services that are knowledgeable about the city and the apartments.

What areas should I avoid?

What apartments would you recommend? I have currently been looking at the 1901 west apartments but am not sure if that is in a safe area.

Is Annapolis a cool place for a 22 year old? I am from Austin,TX and its about as cool for that age as can be so is it comparable?

Finally, is going downtown for a few drinks at night safe? As you can see my first concern is safety so please fill me in!

Thanks for your time.

EDIT: I should clarify that my work is located in Annapolis and I prefer to be in the same city, but if there is a neighboring city that is all around better I would consider.

West St is not the safest area. I would not recomment renting a place on West St or Forest Dr. Annapolis is a fairly safe area with a few hot spots, the streets I listed above. Downtown is very safe and uppity. I am not sure about apartments to rent in maryland, but I would be more then happy to tell you if certain streets are better then others. You can PM apartments you are looking at and I can tell you what I can.

I am 24 and live in Annapolis. I love it here. If you stay on Main Street at night, you will be fine. I found my apartment by looking at private rentals here: Small Business Opportunity

Check out their classifieds, there's always a bunch listed.

Hi Circuitbent,

Welcome to Annapolis. I, too, just relocated here from Austin, Texas with my husband and daughters. Annapolis is a beautiful city and we love it here. The weather is much more mild than in Austin. It does rain here more.

There's no "Sixth Street" here, if that is what you're looking for. However, there is plenty of nightlife downtown. I agree with the previous posters as to the dangerous areas of the city. Its pretty much common sense though. Pay attention to your surroundings.

While West St. does have some shady areas, just know that the most dangerous areas in the city are hardly anything like Rundberg Lane or parts of East Austin. Oh, and get your feel of Tex-Mex before you make the move! Welcome!

I dont think it rains too much here. We rarely see days where it rains all day long. They are usually t-storms that occur around dinner or after dinner or at night. I just drove on West St today because I had to go to the Pep Boys, where 1901 is at is very close to Admiral Drive, as I turned onto Admiral Dr from West St I entered a very bad neighborhoos with 3 cop cars there surrounding a house. I take it was public housing.

Thanks for all of your responses! Do any of you have experience with apartment locators?

See, I am flying out there for 2 days in 2 weeks and need to find a place to live within that time. I dont want to rush into a place and find out that its either in a dangerous location or that the apartments are bad. I dont mind spending a little money per month (up to 1500).

I am completely confused on where to look to live.

Check out harbour gates apartments or regatta bay apartments, stone point apartments. google any of those names for more info. They are all near the Annapolis Mall and in a very safe and upscale area.
