Deelmit: I would suggest doing some research first. Try calling and/or visiting the Southern Precinct (of the Harford County Sheriff's Office. Ask one of the patrolmen who actually work that sector you are interested in. (Realtors will downplay this info). See if there are crime stats available too. Get a copy of the local paper, the Aegis and check out how many arrests in Edgewood compared to other areas in Harford. Harford County Sheriff‘s Office - Official Site

I am not that familiar with the Lord Wilby Rest subdivision. However, Edgewood in general has a bad reputation due to the fact that is has the highest crime rate in Harford County. While there are some nice sections in E Wood, that area has several strikes against it: a large volume of renters, public housing, and section 8 housing; and an unusually high amount of gang activity. Before you buy, take a look around, and see what are you surrounded by. How comfortable would you or your wife be going for a walk? Take a close look at who your neighbors are and how well they care for the area.
There are many other fine areas of Harford County that have safer neighborhoods, water views, pastoral farmland, better schools, etc...
I'll probably take heat from some nice folks in E Wood, sorry if this upsets you guys. However, E Wood has really dragged Harford County down over the last few years.

I lived in Joppatowne, just below Edgewood. I wouldn't go to the grocery store up there at night and watched my back even during the day. Edgewood beats out some inner city sections as far as crime.

Which part of E Wood is a pretty nice place? Where in E Wood can you get good food and find decent markets? The drug, as in illegal narcotics, market is good in E Wood. Most of E Wood is Harford County's version of a miniture West Baltimore.

I sit here and laugh as I read the post comparing Edgewood to West Baltimore. Check it out yourself. There are plenty of working class neigborhoods in Edgewood.

Edgewood Bashing
Hey everyone. Harford County now keeps a map of incidents and crimes happening in Harford County. The following is a quote from The Examiner newspaper, "So far, Harford are the only agencies in the Baltimore region to use crimereports.com — leaving gaps where nonparticipating local police departments, like Bel Air,Aberdeen and have jurisdiction."
I find it kind of funny that Bel Air doesn't report their statistics for all to see. Edgewood is no worse than any other area. Yes there are gang members running around. They are everywhere, not just Edgewood. Those "privileged" persons living north of 95 are naive if they thing that they don't have any gang members. And then we have Fallston. One word for you. Actually two. BEST DRUGS. Unless you go to private school (JC). The comparisons to West Baltimore are absurd. It's the people who make these comments that should walk through these neighborhoods with signs reflecting their opinion. After all, they've made it public in this forum and hide behind a screen name. I live in Edgewood. I live where the one individual described as the nicer side of 24. It is what it is.

Hello all. The Bel Air PD, Aberdeen PD and Havre de Grace PD are smaller PD's, perhaps they do not have the staff/funding to handle posting crime stats on the web. At least the HCSO reports their crime stats throughout the county. Pitch, please explain what is " funny" about these departments not reporting crime stats. Do you think they are hiding something deliberately?
"Edgewood is no worse than any other area." Edgewood has the highest crime rate in Harford County. Although Pitch is absolutely correct in that there are gang members throughout Harford County, the so called "priviledged" people he refers to are not naive to the situation. Furthermore, not all northern Harford County residents are so " priviledged." Luckily, most of these folks cooperate with police about criminal matters, which helps keep gang activity lower outside of E Wood. It is an unfortunate fact for the good folks of E Wood that the largest concentration of gang members and gang activity in Harford County is in E Wood.
Pitch is correct that illegal drugs are available all over the county. I have also heard that Fallston H.S. (excellent academics) does have a big drug problem. Does anyone else have info to support this? If this is true, it should be more publicized in order to enlist the support of parents to stop it.
I hope no one takes the negative comments about E Wood so personally. Pitch, it is apparent that you live in a nicer section there, and you have every right to protect your real estate investment by disputing what people say. Most folks on this forum knows there are nice parts of E Wood, and that some great people live there. The ugly reality of the situation is that E Wood does have more bad areas with more crime than anywhere else in Harford County. E Wood is becoming known as the "Little West Baltimore" of Harford County regardless of whether anyone likes it or not.

Edgewood has some rough spots - but IMO it's over exaggerated.
