If money is an issue, I might consider staying in FL. This can be a very expensive area to move to. Do you have family here or is there another reason that you'd be willing to share as to why you'd move here. It's a great area and all, it's just a big move like that with three little ones is as you know....involved.

That being said, if you do plan to move here and are looking to save money, you might want to look at areas outside the DC Metro Area. Maybe try Howard or Carroll Counties in MD. While from VA, I do hear good things about their school systems.

Either way, I wish you the very best of luck.

Henrico posts will be in Richmond forum. Henrico is wonderful and not as costly to live as the northern va, dc, md area - also Henrico has wonderful schools and the people are a little more laid back. Great area!

I would move to anywhere in the southern part of Montgomery County. The schools are top notch, there is couty run local transport, there is a nearby Metro system, lots of culture and lots of things to do in downtown D.C.

Chevy Chase and Bethesda are right over the border from D.C and are the nicest parts to live in and are directly services by metro. Lots of expensive SUVs and well dressed older men. Silver Spring is an un-incorporated town that has a vibrant down town and is also a just over the border line from D.C and is less expensive than Bethesda but almost just as nice; it's a Bethesda for black people, we call it. Better yet, Takoma Park is a town between Silver Spring and D.C and is a most charming place to live. It's divided into a D.C and Maryland part and features old Victorian houses and lots of charm.

I live in Rockville, which is also great cause it's serviced by metro and is pedestrian friendly. The cops aren't as harsh as they are in Virginia and won't you won't get your license suspendd for six months for speeding. The schools are great and there is even a bike trail that surrounds the city like a beltway sort of.

My sister lives in Gaithersburg and that is just strips malls, houses, and tons of traffic. All Gaithersburg is is acres and acres of farm land recently converted to cookie cutter housing. Nothing to do and the suburban gloom hangs all about. Same goes for Germantown and Olney.

YOu mentioned you are a stay at home mom...do you know what kind of work you will be doing? I think that will determine exactly where you will stay or will you be going to school?

I live in Prince William county which is 30 miles south of DC and very nice area, schools are great. Stafford and spotsylvania are good areas as well. The further south you move away from teh city the cheaper the living gets but also the job market is scarce as well depending on what you will be doing for a living.

Also the nanny and babysitting job market is pretty nice as well.

I think you would like Henrico County, Va. There are county jobs opening up there which would mean good benefits for you. It's a much cheaper area, and much less stressful than the DC-Metro area.

Wow, I wish you the best.. I was once a young single mom of 2 and know it can be stressful. I personally like Point of Rocks Md and Brunswick MD for small towns. They are more of your low income without the dirt that comes with it... Homes are reasonable to purchase and rent.
