Depending on the time you leave and where, in DC, your going it could be as long as an hour. That being said, Olney is a very nice town.

Where are you moving from? Are you used to a LOT of traffic? Montgomery County traffic is quite the culture shock for those from smaller towns.

Depending on where in DC you will be working you might consider taking Metro from the Glenmont station - parking in DC is no fun.

In distance Olney isn't far - in travel time - it all depends on your schedule.

Son and family, daughter and family live in Olney. Very nice area. Wish we could afford the houses there. Centered around Rts 108 and 97 (Georgia Ave.), Georgia Ave is the main route to DC through Silver Spring. It is a crawl during the height of rush hour, and as the previous poster suggested, driving to the Glenmont station about 6 miles from the heart of Olney is the best way to go if your commute is during the normal morning to work and evening home schedule. Both son and daughter work in Montgomery County and their commute is west and north of Olney, rather than south, making it much more tolerable.

I live in new york and i thank you for your responses. I just want to live in Maryland and I guess from the info i recieved about the traffic i guess its better to work in Maryland as well. What is the travel time from Elcott city to Silver Spring compared to Columbia Maryland and Silver Spring or should i just say Montgomery county

During normal commuting hours, you would be in slow traffic coming down I-95 to I-495, or down Rt 29, the main routes into Silver Spring. Probably a bit longer than Olney to SS. But it depends a lot on exactly where you are going in Silver Spring. SS is a large area. 'Downtown' SS means heavy traffic while getting to other areas (Glenmont, White Oak, Wheaton, for example, considered part of SS) could mean an alternate, less congested route.

ok. Thank you. The part of siver springs i was considering was on the georgia ave side. Are there jobs in that area like verizon, a utility company, aerospace, any thing technical or hands on. I am electrician in nyc and was looking for that type of work preferable in the silver springs area to work.
