New Market is a small, quaint town known for its antique shops. More rural and quiet, no big box shopping. Lake Linganore is a popular spot and some neighborhoods overlook it. I have always heard that Frederick county schools are good, but I would look up their website also...Frederick County Public Schools for details. Good luck!

New Market is on the outskirts of Frederick City. It has the nice quaint little antique district described above, but its character is more suburban than rural. More subdivisions have been approved and the population of the town should double within the next 5-10 years, of course the bad housing market may slow that down. The traffic is bad going into Frederick each morning. Assume 30 minutes or more for the 5 or 6 miles on MD 144.

I guess it depends on your perspective. If you are used to crowded urban areas, New Market will seem slower paced and less crowded. If you are used to true rural areas, the traffic and ever growing suburban development will take some getting used to.

You can take rt 70 during rush hour from New Market and be in Frederick in 20 minutes. I imagine taking 144 would take longer due to traffic lights, school buses, etc. I love the New Market area but not looking forward to the future development as westsideboy mentioned. They keep scaling it back, maybe they'll stop it altogether. I can hope
