Exclamation Possibly relocating to MD and need advice!!!

Hi everyone,
I am a recent grad and I am looking to relocate to the MD area with my boyfriend. I am a elementary teacher, so any helpful advice on good school districts to look at for a job would be great. I am also looking for a good area to live. There are a few things that I am looking for: inexpensive apts (I will be living on a teachers salary ); I dont want to live in any high crime areas; I want to live in a town that has a lot to do (I am only 23 and I am looking forward to meeting a lot of nice, new people); I will need a place that has a good college b/c both my boyfriend and I will need somewhere, within driving distance, to take some grad classes; and I have a dog, so I would like her to have a park or someplace to go and run around! If anyone could help me out with any of these areas I would greatly appreciate it!! Thank you in advance!

I would check out Columbia. Good schools, lots of parks. No real "downtown" but you could go to shops and restaurants in Ellicott City which is close to Columbia. Also, Columbia is between Baltimore and Washington so you could take classes in either city.

I moved to Columbia as a single 23 year old (now 29) and I totally agree with Columbia. Your at the half way point and you can go to either B-more or DC to party and hangout. Just don't drink and drive. But you can't go wrong with living in the cities like Baltimore and Federal Hill,Canton area. Its young 20-30 somethings with college education and theirs a ton of bars and restaurants to hang out at. I highly recommend that area as well. DC you will lose because it cost so much and theirs nothing you can do about it. But Arlington, Adams Morgan, Logan Circle, Georgetown are the area's where young congregate and live at...........

Thank you Zippy7fo for the info...I am currently looking at the areas that you suggested. One of my friends lives in Adams Morgan and she said the same thing...it is a place where a lot of young professionals live. Thanks again!

I just moved from Maryland-the nicest area for the money that I found was Glen Burnie-is it well located-the crime rate is relatively low and the people are friendly-I prpabably would not buy in that area-West Friendship, Fort Washington, Ellicott City or the Timmium area are more to my liking-as a matter of fact they have some nice apartments in all just more expensive than Glen Burnie-have no fear there is plenty to do all over-the highway systems get you where you need to be. Another nice area is go. Stay away from Lauerl-Jessup and Columbia in my opion. Fort Washington and

patriciapld1...I was just wondering why you said to stay away from Columbia? I have heard such good things about that area. Thumbs down Teaching jobs in MD

I am moving out of MD due to the low availability in teaching jobs. There are 70 people for every 1 job in Harford and Baltimore Co. I am not sure about the others, but I would assume they are the same. The city needs teachers, but no one is willing to go there.
