PLease help me find a place to live in Maryland
Hi everyone!
I am looking for a great city in WV. I was hoping if I list what I am looking for, I will get some great ideas.
We want country living, trees, open spaces, great views, land, old homes and barns.
We also want mild winters, clean air and low crime.
Are you still with me?
We also are looking for an area where we can have privacy but still drive to nice upscale places to eat, shop ,etc. Health food stores, etc.
We were told Western Md, around hagerstown, is where we should concentrating our search.
Anyway great ideas will be helpful. Any and all facts and tips will be appreciated.
Thanks
PS we dont have kids and we love hiking, outdoors, etc. Because we can do our jobs anywhere, it is not an issue to look for work.

Not knowing your price threshold for pain I'll say this...
If you're looking for a place near WV you probably are already on the right track. I would imagine you would get massive sticker shock if you tried to move to anywhere near the DC Metro area based on the home value differences between the two locations.
Good luck with your search.

Check Out Thurmont
A friend bought a house there recently. It's near parks (including the Appalachian Trail), wooded, close enough to Frederick for shopping, and still affordable. Good place to start your search is www.realtor.com -- if you haven't found it yet. Just put in Thurmont, MD and your price point. If you don't get a good return on that, ask it to check 'surrounding areas'. Lots of little towns up that way.

What is your price range? The Hagerstown and Frederick areas have some mountains, trees, recreation, etc. but are rather expensive since they are within commuting distance of D.C. If you head out about 90 miles further west in Allegany and Garrett Counties, there are a lot more mountains, trees, less people and cheaper prices (except around Deep Creek Lake). The downside of these places is that you will be further from the urban areas and thus upscale shopping, dining, cultural activities, etc.

Thanks for the info on the sweet water stable. We contacted the realtor and will make plans to see it when we go south. Do you have any links or places that I could go to to get information on or about Frostburg?
Thanks

Here is the official city site http://www.ci.frostburg.md.us/
Honestly, I find it to be pretty mediocre.
Try Wikipedia.org for better info. Just search Frostburg, Maryland.

At least you are not going to hagerstown. hagerstown has turned into a good sized city over night. the crime has soared.
