Idleffh: In your Opinion who is committing all the crimes in Maryland since crime is only committed by one set of race or people. To let you know serial killers are 99% whites since you want to give name labels of groups who commit crimes. Regardless of race or color we are all people and in every race and culture their are always going to be criminals it such that in my opinion certain groups are target more often by the criminal justice in America while other race get the free get away card.

Don't listen to relotomd. Gang activity is not prevalent in any of these areas, and there was some isolated incidents in the past but the police have made a dilligent effort to keep the crime very low

I would definitely stay out of Baltimore city. However, there are some places that are nice, depending on how much you want to spend. In my opinion, the Lutherville/ Cockeysville area is nice (or at least was...I haven't been to MD in about 3 years) but it is expensive. It is close enough to the city, just shoot right down 83, but still far enough away...if that makes sense. Mainly areas in southern Maryland could be considered "hickville," but it's not all of southern MD. I would avoid Anne Arundel, but that's just my opinion! I don't know much about western MD.

First of all, I don't appreciate the "Redneck" or "hick" comment....I'm not surprised its coming from a New Yorker. And I'm Asian American, not even white and I find that very distasteful.
Most of Maryland is very safe. We have two ghetto places, Baltimore City and Prince George's County. Nearly all the crime in Maryland takes place here and this is what drives the statistics up. Some crime is also happening in eastern Montgomery County around Wheaton and Silver Spring because of all the illegal immigrants moving in. Rural areas in Maryland are very safe and people are very friendly.
Stay out of Baltimore City and PG County and you'll be as safe as in let's say Boise, Idaho or Abilene, Texas.

Please! There are places (that you probably never driven through) that are pure "KKK like" country in Maryland. if you are not white you SHOULD NOT get out of the car. It may be offensive to to say "Redneck" or "hick", but should we refer to them as "possible white supremacists"? It does exist, it has been experienced by myself and people I know... They are areas of Maryland that most would not have to drive through unless you know somebody or you (GULP!) got lost. It may be offesnive, but its' more offensive when you have to drive through these areas fearing for your life!!! I wasn;t trying to be offensive, I don't know any other way to put it honestly.

I live in Anne Arundel County, so I can only speak for this area. I know there are some bad parts of Annapolis, seeming my husband is a police officer near there, he hears a lot of the trafficing on the airways. Mainly off of Forest Drive. Also there are some bad pockets the closer you get to Baltimore (Glen Burnie has some spots and Brooklyn Park). If you stay south of Annapolis it is pretty safe or north of Annapolis but south of Glen Burnie, it is like a game.

I would love to know where this is, because I definitely have not come across this. However, I have come across driving through an all black community and think that I am going to get my head shot off!

There's an area in St. Mary's County that i drove through like that, and some remote area of Cecil County. Again,. areas i would not have driven through if I hadn't known anyone. A poster was commenting that Carroll County was like that. I know it is somewhat very country, but I never heard of them being like that. They are definitely not as prevalent as the crazy black areas!!!!
