Default Closest lodging to downtown Frederick?

A girlfriend & I are going to meet up in Frederick for a girls' trip. We're looking for the closest lodging to the downtown area. We'd like to walk if possible -- is this a safe area? If not, are taxis plentiful? Any must-sees in that area?

Thanks!

There are B & B's in downtown Frederick.

Chain hotels -

Closet lodging is the Travel Lodge on Rt. 70 at 355 (Market St). Right next to Costco. However, you'd be walking down the busiest strip of 355 into the city - though the area is relatively safe (md school for the deaf, etc). It's getting up the 1/4 mile of 355 until you hit a sidewalk that is scary.

Next closest I think is the Holiday in West Patrick (though it may be a Quality inn now). Right at Rt. 40 and Rt. 15. You can get a taxi to take you downtown. I have never used the Frederick taxi system but i'm sure it's fine. Frederick is not a huge city so getting a cab should not be that hard - just make plans in advance for the return if you're going to be out late, especially on a weekend.

I do not know any of the names of them - but I do know there is one right across the side street from the Md School for the Deaf. It is a beautiful Victorian, and from this point you can definitely walk safely to the center of downtown. If you can google anything by location to the MSD you may be able to find it. good luck!

Downtown Frederick is purty darn safe. I wouldn't go crossing the street without looking, too many teeny weenie syndrome drivers trying to run down pedestrians, but otherwise totally sweet.
Not sure of B&Bs but just get yourself a deal downtown and enjoy the strolling. Isabella's happy hour is worth making time for!
