Default Reliable Auto Service in Howard/Baltimore County

Hello. I'm a young driver but I've had the most horrible experiences with auto mechanics in Baltimore cnty (rt. 40 catonsville) and in Howard cnty (rt.1 Elkridge)

I recently purchased a used vehicle and need a vehicle safety inspection. Does anyone have any recommendations on a trustworthy auto-service center that won't try to rip me off with stuff I don't need.

I'm looking for service in Howard County (Columbia, Ellicott city) or surrounding areas in Baltimore County (Catonsville, Arbutus).

Thanks for the help.

Tonnobb,

I have also had some bad dealings in the past on Rt. 1 myself, especially in the Elkridge area. I know you asked for Balt. County, but when I lived in Montgomery Co., I used a place called Wisconsin Amcco in Bethesda. I realize it's a bit of a haul, but I never had a problem with this establishment and have had both work and inspections done there. Additionally, the owner is very friendly and professional and you are not pressed into buying products, work or services you don't need.

If it must be in Baltimore Co., then my best suggestion would be to get feedback from friends and co-workers on different places. You could also do an internet search and also check the BBB listings.

I know looking for a mechanic you can trust is tough and it's hard cutting through the nonsense, games and gimmicks. Good luck

Gil

Did you listen to Cartalk sometimes? Anyway, on their website, you can search mechanics. I don't know if the recommendations are good or not, our car has no problem so far. Just give you some info.

Car Talk

in the middle, ''find a great mechnic'', put you zipcode in.

That "Find a Mechanic" search needs to be updated.... one of the mechanics they have listed passed away several years ago (he was a friend of my husband's).

North Laurel Auto on Rt 1 in laurel. Its about 20 minutes from BWI. Not sure if that 's too far or not. Although if you have a Honda/Acura - J&D on Rt. 40 is very good (I used their Gaithersburg location in the past). I know you mentioned the bad ones in Catonsville... but I'd say J&D would be the exception... only they are Honda specific.
