Default Looking for rental around White Oaks

Hi,
We are moving to DC area in March from CA. My wife will be working in White Oaks and I will be in Tysons Corner. We have a one-year-old daughter coming with us. So the perfect rental would be some properties close to White Oaks, safe, and quiet, probably not too many pets. The price is not our concern. Any recommendations are appreciated.

Try The Chateau. It is off New Hampshire and right down the street from the FDA. It is a quiet high rise building. I am sure there are some others that will be suggested that are good too.

I had a friend that lived in White Oak, in one of the high-rises off New Hampshire. I think it was in her building that a woman was murdered (allegedly by another woman over a man). From what I saw, I wouldn't recommend the apts. either.

Picture a plus sign (+). Rt. 29 is running top to bottom, south/north. . . New Hampshire Avenue is running west/east.

The Chateau is in the upper left quadrant. I would check that out. I've never heard anything about it but I know it has been totally rennovated top to bottom within the last 10 years. It looks decent and is surrounded by TH and SFHs. They also have a pool and probably other kiddie facilities. You are about 10-15 minutes from 495, heading north on Rt. 29.

STAY AWAY from anything south of New Hampshire on the west side. That includes the garden apts right behind the Sears store in the strip mall (I think they are called Oak Hill) - they have an especially bad rep and probably where that lady was murdered. There are apt complexes all along the west side of Rt. 26 running north towards Columbia. . .they are all suspect. Not the best part of MoCo by any means.

I re-tought my post if that is ok. My husband drives out to Tyson's and the drive to work is not bad BUT coming home is a complete nightmare.

Is there anyway you could move more toward the center--maybe towards Bethesa/Rockville/Kensington? I do not know what your price range is but your wife would have a reverse commute and you would cut a little time off of your drive. My DH started out saying he was ok with the drive but after a month he is already complaining so we are going to move.

I DO live in the Chateau and it is quiet. Mostly military, grad students, working families. I have had no problems, and the maintenance staff is quick.

BTW, murders occur EVERYWHERE in this regoin. Welcome to the DMV.

Are you thinking of the high rise complex across New Hampshire from Sears? That is not the Chateau. The Chateau is a single building right at New Hampshire and 495. The highrises I believe you are referring to at 29 have been totally renovated, but the work was still being done into this year so the renovations are much more recent than 10 years. It is close to a nice area so they might be a good option. Sorry, even though I ride by every day, I can't for the life of me recall the name.

Trying said to check out the Chateau. Re read the post.

The apartments near Sears are bad news. There is a big white high rise --can't think of the name though.

Unless you MUST live in White Oak/Hillandale. I would suggest you try a little bit closer to Tysons due to the traffic.

Yup, you're right. Chateau is on 495 and the ones across from Sears on New Hampshire are now called the M or something (there are 3 white high rises that kinda fork out into a upside-down "y" shape). There is also a singular high rise on rt.29 going north towards Randolph Road - I don't know the name of that but it has been around since I was born over 30 years ago and the outside has not changed a bit (don't know about the inside)
