I would like to know a little about Woodstock, MD, is it a good place to work and raise a family 5 yr. old. I would also like to know about the winter weather and any pics of the area if anyone has any.

Woodstock is a very small area in Howard County off of I-70. I don't know much about it, but passed through some of it a thousand times on my way from/to Frederick to my parents' home in Silver Spring. It is rural, with lots of farms, particularly horse farms. Beautiful and scenic. I don't really know what type of shopping/schools/entertainment is around there and I believe the closest major "city" would be either Mt. Airy (to the west) or Westminster (to the north). I'm sure the schools are very good. This is farm country/SFH county.

Thanks, I'm not looking for the big city live but I was hoping for a little more than horses and cows. I would like some family entertainment and some conviences of the city. Well is Frederick any nicer and how far of a commute would it be from Frederick to Woodstock or the next largest area with more to offer a family?

Frederick to Woodstock is about 25 miles. I'd say either Mt. Airy (west) or Westminster (north) are the next closest cities but Frederick is bigger and has more to offer than both of them. I don' tknow much about Carroll County (Westminster, Eldersburg, Sykesville, and a little of Mt. Airy) but it seems like a nice area from what I read on these boards with the usual pockets of not so nice mixed in. Woodstock is very rural and small. If you are looking for more stimulation then living there is not going to be for you.

Thanks, I have a job offer in that area and I was trying to do some research beforehand. I guess I will do some scouting when I visit this weekend.

My best friend grew up in Woodstock. You can drive down Rt. 99 or marriotsville rd and be in Ellicott City in 10 minutes. I don't know all of the street names, but there are some back roads that will take you to Liberty Rd in Baltimore County. Liberty Rd is super busy and has a lot of different businesses on it. Woodstock is relatively near Owings Mills and Columbia as well. Mt Airy is not a large city, and although Woodstock seems rural, it is pretty close to all of the amenities the more urban suburbs have to offer. Look on google maps to find the quickest way to get places.

Thanks, I'm driving up tomorrow for an interview and to look around. My husband's uncle lives in Baltimore so I'm sure he will help us find a nice safe area to move to. I really don't mind the rural areas as long as it's in close prox. to things to keep up busy.
