Question Best place to live in maryland? moving from Tenn with 2 little boys

Hi, I am new at this posting site. I am hoping to get some ideas and help. I'm doing some research on moving to Maryland from Tennessee. My man, is wanting to apply for new job at gov't agencies and I am just going along with him. We will have 2 boys with us. They are 4 and 2 year old and I want to find a place where is good to raise little ones. Also, I am deaf single mom with my wonderful boyfriend's support in helping me raising my boys. My income isn't so good and wanting to apply for some realistic affordable prices for like 3 or 4 bedrooms. We might will have roommates wanting to split up the rent. All I care for is, good area to raise my kids without any severe crimes in the town, good fun places to take the kids, welcoming new "outsiders". Roommates plus me and my boyfriend, we all are deaf, some can hear somewhat, some not at all. Plus with my son being 4, want to apply for good school system for him to enroll fall 09. A good affordable daycare for my other little boy. Also, where is best place to find job easily without any discrimination of be unable to hear? I have be told that good place to raise kids was in Frederick but not sure about other areas. My boyfriend is considering on taking job either in DC area or Leesburg, VA. I want reasonable area to where we are able to afford the rent and not too far from job sites plus with good surroundings for my little ones. I am desirably move out of Tennessee and start my new life and hopefully my boys would love it too.

I think the first thing you need to figure out is where your boyfriend is going to work. Get a firm job offer with a salary, that way you'll know what you can realistically afford. Everything else will flow from that.

Well moving from Tenn to Maryland will be a big change more so the cost of living. I live in MD my entire life. My husband is from Tenn but have been in MD now for 10yrs so I know alittle bit about Tenn economy. We own a 3 bedroom home which rents for $650 a month. Here is MD you will never never never find a 3 bedroom renting for less then $1200 dollar a month and that is in the low income areas.

Here in MD if you want good school, low crime you need the money. I think to live comfortable in MD you need to make at least $70k a yr.

If you can afford it - go with Frederick, Md. The Maryland School for the Deaf is right in the downtown section and there is a very large deaf community there. Great place to raise a family and sort of city living without the city, retaining small town charm. You CAN commute to DC and Leesburg from Frederick but . . . as with any commute around here. . .it is not going to be 1) short or 2) stress-free. That being said, Frederick schools are good and the area is very family oriented.
