Just out of curiosity because I'm a first time homeowner, what is considered normal when moving into a new place like Tanyard Springs? Are there supposed to be housewarming parties, neighborhood get-togethers, or other activities? Are you supposed to go knock on the doors of a new neighbor or wait for them to knock on yours if they were there first? I know these are stupid questions, but I'm about to move in there too. I'm glad I went with Lennar because it's been a positive experience thus far, unlike my visits with Ryan Homes.

Well, I am from Central NY and I was brought up where if you have a new neighbor you go over there and introduce yourself and bring a baked good. But I have had two homes in MD and I have not experienced that from anyone when I move in. But I have found out that if you want to meet new people in your development, walk around and stop to talk to people who are walking their dog or washing their car. I have get-togethers (well, really Happy Hours) every once in a while and I have invited my neighbors and some people who I have met along the way. I did not knock on my neighbors doors when I moved in because they were here first. But when they were outside I introduced myself. My husband and I actually thought about inviting all the people on our street for a little party but then I heard that we were going to have a block party. That never happened though. I have met people at the Tanyard Springs yard sale and the Southern Living parties. If you see something going on in the neighbohood, go to it. I think it will be easier to meet people once the clubhouse is open.

Hi everyone, My Daughter and Son in law are looking to purchase a townhome in Tanyard Springs, in fact we were just there today. We were curious as to what electric and gas bills run on a monthly basis. My Son-in-law is in the Navy and this would be helpful for them and their budgeting.

If Tanyard Springs runs off of BG&E, your electric bill will be quite high in the summer unless you conserve. Make sure the condo you purchase has an upgraded energy effeciant unit and keep it at 72 all year round

I am in the Lennar townhome and here are what my bills have been. I moved in January 15 and my first bill was for a month and a half (billed in March) for $369. April was $218, May $194, June $168, July $219, August $168, September $199. I will be getting a programmable thermostat soon. I usually have me thermostat set at 70 in the colder months and 73 in the warmer months.

Oh, August was $168 most likely because we were on vacation for one week and didn't have the air on.

Kids...Where are the kids at? We just moved here a week ago and have yet to see a child outdoors. My two nine year olds are horrified there doesn't seem to be friends for them to make. If any of you have children around 9, please let me know! Kdr885@yahoo.com

If you just moved in then you're probably towards the back of the development. I think most kids have been avoiding the area because of the construction work going on. I went running and biking by and the construction noise was kind of loud at times. There's a playground straight back mockingbird circle from where the model townhouses are. There were plenty of kids out at Halloween so give it time. The weather hasn't been very good for outdoor activities lately.

Now if you're in one of the new sections with the mini Lennar townhouses or Ryan townhouses then you're kind of stuck for a bit unless you explore the main development down the street.
