Default What's the story with Owings Mills - Newtown area?

I've been to the Owings Mills' Newtown area, and thought it seemed pretty nice, almost comparable to Columbia (on some levels, without the hefty price tag). It was diverse, young, newly constructed (and still developing...), etc.

But, we all know that what seems to be true, may not always be true. So, I would be interested in hearing the impressions of others, who perhaps have lived in or frequented the area to give more insight. What am I NOT seeing?

Default Live in New Town

Hello...I live in New Town currently. It's still growing. I moved here about 8 years ago.

The mall kinda sucks, but like I said, it's still growing. A couple of new stores and who knows. But it does have the Owings Mills AMC 17...It Rocks! (Heads up...any movies in theaters 14-17 have leather reclining seats, so if you look up the movies at Owings Mills AMC 17 and see that your movie is playing in any one of those...you're gold).

It's quiet...safe...close to the metro. I really have nothing negative to say about it. You can get anything from an apartment to a condo to a single family home there (pick you price range--it may be cheaper to buy a condo than to rent an apartment---because of the location the apartments can are easily in the 4 digit range).

The schools are new (New Town High is about 3-4 years old). You're really close to a couple of parks...Deere Park has three walking/hiking trails. Northwest has a paved wooded trail with softball parks and a kiddie park. At the same time several businesses are building around there or already have established businesses there. CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield, T. Rowe Price, Legg Mason, Toyota Finance all are short drives (> 5 minutes).

People are generally friendly. You can walk/run around the neighborhood without fear. Lots of dog lovers, so you'll see plenty of them out there too. Lots of restaurants (Hops, Red Lobster, Don Pablos, Tony Roma's and Red Robin all in one area). Venture out a little farther to Randallstown to Samone's for great soul food or to Riesterstown for your typical Applebees, TGIF, etc.,.

It's not Columbia...it wants to be Columbia when it grows up (that's not a bad thing). Right now it's really, pretty cool. It's not crowded, it's quiet, it's homey, it's friendly and there are lots of things to do.

Coming2FL - Thank you so much for your reply; it was very informative and kinda put my mind at ease. I realize opinions are quite subjective, but you touched on all the matters that concern me most.

P.S. One of the reasons I'm okay with leaving Columiba is the fact that it is getting so crowded - - in my book, less is more!

Thanks again.
