Default Ft. Meade to Bethesda commute

My husband and I are moving in July with our 9-month old - he works at Ft. Meade, I'll be starting at the NIH, and we're hoping the baby can be in day care close to Ft. Meade.
Any recommendations on places to live between the two? We would love to rent a townhouse/house if possible. I would be fine with driving to the Metro, then taking the Metro in from Rockville or Shady Grove to Medical Center. Any thoughts on Olney, Sandy Springs, Ashton, Fulton?
Does anyone have experience with this commute? Thanks in advance for your help...

Hmm..from Olney/Sandy Spring you will have to take the backroads across town. 108 to 28W to 355 or something like that.

Only with the Shady Grove to Medica Center part - short ride on the train and I believe parking is $4.75 or close to it. Getting on at Shady Grove you're guaranteed to get a seat if that's important to you.
