That's the difference between a regulated and a de-regulated utility.

If you really want to save some money on gas and electric I recommend Ambit Energy. They guarantee savings over BGE hands down. I've read up on them and I can't find a genuine bad thing about them. They come to Baltimore on November 1st and I'm signing up that day!! www.WeAreAmbit.com

These are the complaints I found on Ambit Energy. Ambit Energy Complaints
Arnand, do you work for them? When I went to their website to check it out for my mom in NY, the rep for her area was named Arnand.

Hi Samstermom,
I am a new customer for Ambit, they give each customer their own website that they can use to refer other new customers. If you do sign your mom up they will give her one as well.
I read through the Ambit Energy Complaints website you posted and the thing I noticed the most is that the complaints were mainly from about two years ago. I am relatively new customer and I have not experienced ANY problems with Ambit whatsoever. I'm not saying I guarantee I won't ever have an issue with them, but I am saying that I've had some kind of problem with EVERY company I've been with no matter where I've lived. All I know is that Ambit is charging me less than I have EVER paid and I've not had to call them for any kind of problem. I'm hoping Ambit continues to treat me as well as they do because if so I'll remain a customer for a long time.
I hope I could help!!

Default Deregulation

If you would like to pay less for energy than you should deregulate. Go to www.potomacviewenergy.com and click the "deregulate" tab. Once on the page click where it says "click here" to follow the link. Take a couple minutes to read everything about deregulation. Its fast and easy and you will pay less if you decide to switch. Since power is deregulated we should be shopping the rates just like you would with car insurance. If you have any questions or comments all of my contact info is on the Potomac View Energy website.

Ok, so December's bill just came in...$380 for a townhouse in Abingdon. Is this on par with other townhouses in the area? I don't know the exact square footage, but we don't have any bump outs and the basement is partially finished. Granted, my roommate kept the thermostat on 70 24/7, but it still seems high.

Sorry but $350 not bad - I wish! I just received a $850 electric bill for 31 days. I live in a 1bedroom / 1level / 900sq ft apartment and it is just me. I have no idea what to do but something is not adding up. I am very concious about my electric usage, I unplug anything that is not being used, I turn off lights when not in use, I have winterized the place, and I keep the heat setting around 68 degrees, I don't even have a dishwasher! Of course when I call they just say they will look into it, but I am sure that nothing will be done - I feel stuck. And, from my previous experiences with BGE they have never been willing to admit an error on their part and I have never heard of them actually applying credits. I have already called the landloard and everything seems fine on their end. I contacted the MD Public Service Commission to file a complaint against BGE, but I must wait until BGE preforms their investigation before they MPC can look into the case. Its basically robbery! Since this is a newly rehabbed building that was just divided into appartments for the first time, there have been no previous renters and no previous bills that I can compaire my bills to. I am at a loss of what to do - At the price of $850 a month for electric, I am going to either file for bankruptcy, break my lease and move, or just cancel electric all together and live as they did in the stone ages. I feel totally taken advantage of!

There's gotta be something wrong with $850 for a 1BR, especially if you actually unplug stuff (does that really save much anyway?)

Are you able to read your own meter to compare it to what the bill said?

You just said it's one building that got divided up...any chance they are billing you for the entire building? I dunno, just grasping for straws here...

Default just turn off your heat

I had a 493.00 bill last year for my modestly-sized apt (900 sq ft. or so)...for my Jan. bill. I have since turned off my heat, used space heaters for when I'm in the room, have a space heater hooked up to my light switch in my bathroom, so when I plan to use the bathroom, I turn on the light which turns on the space heater and heats it up quickly, and just wear warm clothes at all times while at home...a heated blanket doesn't hurt either so when I plan to go to bed, I turn that baby on high 20 min. before and am toasty warm. My bill last Jan...493...My bill this past Jan. 100.00.

So, your BGE bills killing you? Turn off your heat, wear warm clothes, and fight the power.
