Question Commute from Rockville to Baltimore

Hi all,

Does anyone know how painful the commute is to go from Rockville to Baltimore? There is a chance that my work is moving me to Baltimore (from Greenbelt), and I'm wondering whether this is going to end up giving me a killer commute or not. Thanks!

Yep. Killer commute. Probably 1.5 hours one way.

It will be a haul - but people do it. I worked with a guy who commuted from Baltimore to Reston, in 03 everyday. And he is still doing it as of today - has stoopid miles on his car. You may be able to take the backroads from RKV to 70, depending on where you live. That should help a bit, either way distance wise, it's a bit much. But..there are people who do it everyday.

Default Not for everyone, but works for some people

I knew several people that worked in Rockville and bought places in Baltimore. After a few years, one of the coworkers ended up putting their place on the market - it was just too much of a commute for them. The other coworker I think was fine with the commute.

House in Rockville, work in Baltimore might be significantly less painful than the other way around due to commuting patterns though.

Thanks for the input. I've done the commute from Chevy Chase to Hanover before, and it wasn't bad since I was going against traffic. Rockville to Baltimore will be much farther, but I was hoping that it wouldn't be that bad. Sigh... oh well.

I did it several times in the past month, and each time it took 1.5 hours one way.

My husband used to commute from North Bethesda (near the White Flint station) and on a good day, it would take him 50 minutes. A bad day could easily be an hour and a half.

On a good day, about 50 minutes like the poster above said. But like 30% of the time there'll have been an accident and then it's a really really awful trip. Between like 745 and 9:30 there'll be a lot of traffic either way
