Default What are Crofton and Bowie like?

Hello,
My family is relocating to Maryland. We wanted to live in Takoma Park or close-in Silver Spring, but are not finding good houses in our price range. My husband is interested in Crofton and Bowie, which are also a better commute to his job in Greenbelt. I'm concerned that those areas might be too car-dependent and suburb like. I'd really like an area that has things to walk to, preferably a town center that is not just a strip mall, where you can bike, etc. How are those towns in that regard? Also do they have good family/community activities? We're hoping for a sort of close-knit community or at least neighborhood within a community.

Thanks!

I think bowie might be better fit for your family.

I'd try searching this forum using "bowie", "crofton", "PG county" (where Bowie is).

Bowie also has metro close so instead of driving to work you can take the metro. Also Bowie do have walkable communities with shopping areas as well.

you would have to drive or take the bus to the metro from either crofton or bowie. crofton is not all that much farther.

Major consideration:
Bowie is in Prince George's County
Crofton is in Anne Arundel County

Meaning that schools are better in Anne Arundel?

Can anyone tell me if Crofton has a sort of town center (that maybe has a post office, some shops, etc.) that is not a mall or a strip mall? Thanks.

When I am driving into Crofton leaving from Bowie I see plenty of run down buildings.
Schools in Bowie are excellent. Bowie has plenty of blue ribbon schools.

Crofton is not a developed area walking communities that is more Bowie then Crofton.
