Gotta love politics - I mean, look at the cabinet nominees that are complete TAX EVADERS and turn around and try to say how they didn't know they had to pay taxes, etc?
The fact that we have the Secretary of the Treasury - a known tax evader - that is going to oversee the friggin' IRS is a COMPLETE JOKE. And no one seems to think this is a problem! The whole world is laughing at us. God Bless the USA because we are going to need it.

I wonder how many reading your post have ever been told by the IRS they owe more money?

Most taxpayers don't willfully understate their income tax liabilities.

I would say to you that no one knows that answer and anyone administering a survey to measure would suspect that those answering are not telling the truth.
How many people are going to tell a pollster they understate their tax liabilities. Are you saying for all reading posters and lurkers that that most bartenders and waiters/waitresses accurately report tips. Are you saying that most people in home repair who give you a lower price if you pay cash are fully reporting the amount you pay them? Are you really? Most people are honest when the income or benefit is reported via form to the IRS. Are they equally honest if the IRS doesn't know and only will if they self report? Posters and linkers what do you think?

The IRS targets individuals and businesses that rely primarily on cash transactions for generated revenue. It knows on average what a restaurant or a bartender or a plumber in a given area should earn. Many cash basis small businesses close down after an audit for failure to pay employment taxes.

Agreed those that can try to avoid their full obligation in significant numbers.

Glad I don't live there anymore! We used to write our checks to the "BG & E Monopoly" every month. Seriously. They cashed them, of course.
