I still stand by my original statement. Most taxpayers are not paid in cash. So most taxpayers do not willfully undertstate their income tax liabilities. But you are also right. Cash basis businesses are a major source of problem for the IRS. That's why it allocates substantial resources towards enforcment of small businesses and individuals.

The fact that we have the Secretary of the Treasury - a known tax evader - that is going to oversee the friggin' IRS is a COMPLETE JOKE. And no one seems to think this is a problem! The whole world is laughing at us. God Bless the USA because we are going to need it.
The whole world has been laughing at us for the past 8 years. The past administration has been a COMPLETE JOKE. Sorry you can't turn the other cheek, or perhaps you don't live in a glass house, or maybe you do.

Default yes

Marylanders are suffering greatly.. thanks to our Governor and his cronies..Sadly he is selling us out.. i do know that their are companies that charge less. i don't know the names but i am going to check on it.. we recently got the slots bill passed but only at 5 locations i think. i just heard that our governor is now charging about $30 million for licensing fees..he needs to take another trip to ireland i guess..good luck to you..post here if you find another provider.. and i'll do the same

(My electric bill for my one-bedroom in DC (with a different electric company) averaged $80 to $100 a month.) I also almost always turn all the lights and air conditioning/heating off before I leave everyday.

Also, there is a "distribution charge," separate and apart from the cost of actual electricity used, on the BG&E bill that has been around $24 on both bills. I don't think I've ever seen anything like this or at least in this amount every month.

Does anybody else have similar experiences with this company? Is there any reasonable explanation you can think of for how I can have a $160 electric bill for a one-bedroom apartment I'm hardly ever in when I always turn all the lights and air conditioning/heating off before I leave everyday?

I don't care if one is Republican (as I am), Demowacko, or a zebra with pink dots and green stripes. IF YOU DON"T PAY YOUR TAXES YOU SHOULDN"T BE THE HEAD OF THE TREASURY DEPARTMENT!!!!

The fact that this jokester got confirmed would, if I were Daschle, have me screaming on every TV station about why this loser got through the process but I didn't, but I guess Daschle isn't going to bite the hand that feeds him. . .
ALL POLITCIANS ARE CORRUPT.

lj42660 is on a distinguished road
I lived in Maryland for 36 years and would welcome BG&E rates. I now live close to Atlanta, Georgia and just to run my water heater in the summertime it's $80 plus dollars a month- that's just for my water heater with two of us living in the house. We have to pay a gas piping fee here every month on our bill that varies from $25-$48 mo.

When I lived in Frederick, MD (Allegheny power - Washington gas - Frederick Division), my gas bill in the summer was usually about $17 dollars.

I know for certain that my gas bill in the summer here in Laurel with BGE will be AT LEAST $70 because that is what they charge in total (with fees and surcharge bullcrap) to bring the gas to my house!!! That makes me mad!

I am happy to report, though, that after freezing our butts off in this house for 2 months after moving in, BGE is adjusting our budget billing downwards by almost $150 a month. I was going to scream if I got that bill this week and there was no downward adjustment. When you run the heat from 55 to 62 degrees, you should NOT be paying through the nose b/c the heat barely comes on!!!

can you buy your electricity from another source? In San Diego, we have SDG&E that gouges everybody plenty, considering it never gets cold or really hot here...but I think we can buy our electricity from several other sources... but not sure how that works though. I tried to figure out my bill once, what a joke, with all the fees and taxes and all, that was almost half my bill.

I buy my gas/electric from Washington Gas and Electric but BGE delivers it (with multiple fees of course). I was able to do this through the American Legion. The Maryland AL members were able to buy energy at a lower rate as long as we had a certain number of members sign up. I got my first bill from them this past month and it was about $50 cheaper.
