Ok, listen to this..our bills in a 2bdr apt in Frederick, MD (Agh power) were $200-$300 (sometimes more) a MONTH.
Our HVAC system which is seperate for each unit died. They replaced it with a brand new energy efficient one. Since the change, our bills have been UNDER $100 every month. That is with us using washer/dryer, dishwasher, A/C, Heat! I think last month was $40 (for May)!
The chart from last year to this year is just unbeleivable! The useage is 1/3 to 1/4 of what it was.
If you are spending a lot on electric bills, look at the efficiency of your HVAC system. Also have your meter checked by the power company.
Paying more than $100 a month for a 2bdr or less is just plain nuts!!!!

If you are of the mind our energy costs are going to increase (due to demand or to price inflation) moving forward, is you can lock your rate with Washington Gas & Electric for up to 3 years.

I locked for 2 years, as I'm sure my rate can't go much lower and can only head higher.

I am locked in for three years at Washington G&E since I don't trust BGE at all.

We moved here from South Carolina. We got quite a sticker shock on electric prices. The price per kwh is quite a bit higher here than where we came from. I think part of the problem was BGE is the only electrical provider. We had two to chose from in SC, so that helped keep rates down.

In Virginia, rates per kilowatt hour are half the price they are in Maryland. So much for the deregulation (which Maryland had).

In a strict state-to-state comparison, Virg's rates are 70% of MD's, based on the latest figures.

Electric Power Monthly - Average Retail Price of Electricity to Ultimate Customers by End-Use Sector, by State

Ultimately though you're better off comparing the rates based on where in the state you live. In Frederick County we use Allegheny Pwr, and they beat the pants off the rates further east in the state.

Wow...i guess in a way im kinda/sorta glad i live in so.ca. My highest electric bill was $20.00 month during winter & summer i avg around $5.00-$7.00 month. My most recent bill for june.09 was $3.00. I DONT use a/c but i have a down draft cooler that i just started using yesterday (i have used the vent though). This is the 1st time in 10 yrs that i have not used my evaporative cooler by late may/early june. Im very conservative. I do use a fan in my bedroom which is on all nite & alot during the day. Now you dont even want to know how much my gas bills are. Lets just say i havent had hot water in my home in many years.

Yeah, cause Maryland is a rip-off! There deregulation cap is over so now they claim they have to "catch up"...............I'm in Pa now and the dereg hasn't become in effect, but will come 2010. Good Luck! I was born and raised in Glen Burnie, Md. I had a home with just me and my gas/electric was in the high 200's.

I'm in upstate NY now, originally from MD and looking to come back. We moved before the BG&E hike so we got shocked by bills in NY ranging from $225 (rarely) to almost $400. This last bill my "delivery charge" was higher than my supply charge!! Anyone know how Delmarva prices compare? I've heard they are less than BG&E but of course you have to be in an area they service. Also, I heard there was a new 12 year rule put on BG&E that they can't raise their prices again?

Default You can still have Pepco

Just as a side note to the OP and anyone else that just moved to MoCo... you can still get PEPCO. They serve MoCo and PG. So you don't have to get BGE because their prices are rediculous.
