Default Patriots Glenn in Elkton

Hi,

Can anyone comment on the Patriots Glen neighborhood in Elkton, MD? We are thinking of purchasing a house there. It seems like a nice neighborhood but we are not from the area.

Thanks!

We are also looking into Patriots Glen. The taxes seem high...maybe because it is fairly new? What is the clubhouse like - golf, pool and fitness?? Also interested in information regarding the middle and elementary schools...is there a bus, the rating of education, extra/after school activities, etc.

We have only lived here a month so I can't give you a lot of detailed information. The HOA seems to be active. There is a community yard sale tomorrow. I haven't been in the clubhouse to see the fitness area. The pool opens the end of this month, but it looks nice enough. There is also a baby pool. There is a tennis court and a small playground with basic equipment. I have heard the golf course is nice and the price is right. My kids are not in school yet but it seems like the school district is fairly decent. I researched their scores online and was satisfied. Google Maryland school reports. There is a state website that gives the reports for all the schools in MD. I believe there is a bus as I see a ton of kids on the corner in the morning. Overall we are pleased with the neighborhood thus far. It is quiet and everyone has been friendly. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply...we will be looking at homes in Patriots Glen this weekend. We will also be looking at homes in North East. I called the elementary and middle schools in Elkton for information this week. Our impression is that Elkton has seen some growth in new housing over the past 5-10 years.

We also live in Patriots Glen. If you are looking for private schools in the area. Don't overlook Elkton Christian Academy K-12. They accept and are open to all Christ based faiths (including Roman Catholic). Great kids , great families and very affordable!! I often tell people, it reminds me of going to school in the 70's. Bonfires, Walk-a-thons, camp outs, etc.. I can't lie, Elkton does have its issues but with the recent growth is coming positive change. Welcome!!!!

We returned from house hunting and still really love Patriots Glen. The only thing holding us back is feedback we get about the "area" of Elkton in general. Very concerned about public school because we don't want to go the private route. We have seen the test scores and eh, but improving each year. Looks like people are selling their homes for less than purchased a few years ago yet paying taxes on the higher value...but I guess that could just be the market. Also how is the town itself?....the library, shopping, places to eat, etc. We are 40 somethings with school age kids. We love golf so Patriots Glen is appealing to us.

My daughter and SIL live in Patriots' Glen. She home schools, so the school district is not an issue. The taxes are on the high side in part because it's incorporated into Elkton--more local taxes. My two cents' worth.

Well, momonthemove, Elkton's public schools are better than people make them out to be. We have a newly remodeled high school, so our building is now (in my opinion) in better shape than any other high school in the county. We have excellent teachers, and for three out of the past four years Elkton has been the home of the Cecil County Teacher of the Year. People will often say that Elkton high has very bad students, but even though we are the most diverse school in the county (which I feel is a very big plus for our students), fights are pretty rare, and I can't recall too many students with major disciplinary problems.
But of course there's a bus, md1206! What, did you think all the kids in that neighborhood had to walk to school? The CCPS system may have its flaws, but providing busses is certainly not one of them.
However, my opinion on Patriot's Glen is that it's no good. The yards are too small and no one who lives there knows how to drive. Sometimes I have to drive past there on the way home, and you can always tell who is going to turn into that neighborhood because they drive like they own the road, and show no courtesy towards other drivers. Patriot's Glen is also one of the reasons that Elkton is becoming too crowded, and losing the nice small town feel that I love about it. And of course, there's the fact that before Patriot's Glen was built, my car was never hit by a golf ball while driving down Muddy Lane. True story.

Thanks Cestlavie. LOL about the buses...wasn't sure if you needed to live a certain distance from the school to get the bus. We drove past the schools and I telephoned the elementary and middle schools for information plus checked out ratings etc online. I feel better about the schools after some checking into them and getting feedback from people who actually have children attend them. How is the traffic/drive to and from 95 from there?
