Thumbs up Looking for a place to live in Maryland

I am attending Gallaudet University in Washington DC in the fall. I am looking for a fun, open-minded community to live in outside of the city. I plan to ride the metro into the city for school. Since I am a student, I need to find an area that is not very expensive. I also would prefer a shorter commute. Any suggestions?

Given that there is a free shuttle from the Metro, you can live along the Red, Blue or Orange line of the Metro.

DC is very expensive. Lots of single people live in / around Tenleytown, Woodley park and Dupont Circle in DC. Nicer neighborhoods are along Connecticut and Wisconsin Ave.

Others choose Silver Spring (red line).

I didn't know what you meant about open minded communities but culturally, Metro DC a diverse population of various ethnicities, educational backgrounds, physical and mental capacities and sexual orientation.
