Default Pikesville (Please Help)

I have driven through Pikesville and it looks like a nice community. I was told to stay North of 695. However I am looking at a home in our price range at 7013 Plymouth Road. The area looked nice, not upscale; but a safe area. Can anyone tell me how this area is and if it has gone downhill. I think the area is called Colonial Vilage. Also does anyone know how the school district is, we have no children yet but anticipate doing so in the future. I have heard the highschool is Pikesville High(which looks respectable) and others have told me Northwestern High(which does not look near as good).

It just seems like houses are reasonable there, which is a must because we really want to buy a home. I am in law school right now so I dont have an income and my wife makes about $48,000 a year as a nurse. Since she works downtown and I go to school in the city, it seemed if that area of Pikesville is safe and not declining, that it might be a good option with the subway.

I dont want to put down the city of baltimore, but for one thing the taxes and homes are just too expensive for us; especially with parking.

I am not sure if it matters, but both my wife and I are Caucasian Christians. The only reason I add that is because I know their is a heavy concentration of Jewish People in the area, and I am not sure if we would be well accepted. Any advice would be great. Thanks

I live right around the corner from Colonial Village and it is a cute area. Pikesville itself is a nice safe area and if I hadn't been here for the past 15 years, I'd consider buying here.

Really, the farther north up Reisterstown Rd. you go, the better. There are nice restaurants, shops etc and soem good schools. The father south, however, and it gets bad, quick. Pikesville schools are fine but don't go to Northwestern. I went there and I wouldn't send my child there. Just do your homework about schools and stay northward and you should like it.

And yes, Pikesville is very dominently Jewish but it doesn't pose any problems.

Thank you for the info. I know the further north you go the nicer it gets, but would you buy a home in Colonial Village if you were able to get it for a good price. Thanks

I live right in Colonial Village and it is a good area. Since it is in the county, you'd be in the Pikesville High School District and not Northwestern (which is in the city). However, while the middle school and the high school are good, the elementary school (Milbrook) is not. However, many families (such as our next door neighbors) manage to send their kids to another school in Baltimore County. Colonial Village has a large Jewish population, but it also has a large black population. Overall, the area is very diverse and you shouldn't worry about feeling uncomfortable being Caucasian and Christian.

Let me know if you have any more questions about the area.
