Does the AIDS statistics reported in DC also extend out to MD and VA too?
I just read the washingtonpost article that said that DC has the highest rate of AIDs cases...moreso than in Africa...does that also extend to MD and VA since that would constitue the whole metro area? Because if that's the case the AIDs cases down there are much higher than what they've reported in DC. As a single woman, that is definitely a major concern for me. I'll need to be extremely careful when dating there. Does that scare anyone else?

An article in today's Washington Post quotes some DC officials as believing the infection rate is higher than reported. PG County rates of all STD's are higher than the rest of MD combined, excluding Baltimore City.

The numbers for DC are HIV and AIDS combined, not just AIDS. If you just look at AIDS, DC is 5th nationally, after San Fran, LA, NY, Miami

To research HIV/AIDS statistics in various areas of Maryland, go to the Maryland AIDS Administration's website (you can Google it for the exact address). It will give you detailed statistics on new infection rates, total AIDS cases, percentages by various transmission modes, etc., for each county in Maryland. Don't know if Virginia offers the same info. but, you might want to Google Virginia AIDS Admin. to see if they offer a site as well. Best of luck.

There is a thin line between DC, MD, and VA and I am sure that people from DC are sleeping with people from MD and VA. Because MD and VA are so big and include parts that are not located near DC, the statistics here won't appear as high.
