Kettering is actually Largo, Upper Marlboro post office. I used to know some folks who lived there but we've lost track of each other over the years. Former Lt. Gov. Mike Steele lives there. It is on the edge of areas that become, well, bad is the only word I can think of. It is near Lake Arbor, a fairly expensive golf course community.

From what I have heard, parts of it are nice and other parts not so much. I personally prefer Lake Arbor, which is nearby. Established neighborhood with an active community association and a variety of attractive houses. You may be able to get a good deal there.

When I first moved to MD from NY I lived with my pops in Kettering. Lake Arbor is Lake arbor they attend the C. H. Flowers cluster. Largo is Largo however Kettering and Largo attend the Largo High Cluster. Kettering is cool depending on how close you live to the shopping centers. Largo is in a state of decline. Lake Arbor is the pricier of the three. I wouldn't recomend Kettering or Largo if schools is an issue because Largo High is horrible if you factor in the numbers of students expelled, phased into alternative schools, and drop outs the graduation rate at largo would shock you. Outside of that the neighborhood is cool. It's just largo high and the cluster schools associated with it that make the area unattractive. This comes from a person who attended Largo and would have dropped out if my aunt hadn't pulled strings and transferred me to suitland where I graduated with honors. Tragically alot of people who went to largo with me didn't make it out. The administration is very negligent.

Kettering is a decent area, but like Majez says....Largo High is pretty bad. Given that many of PG County schools aren't great to begin with, Largo is pretty bottom of the barrel where High Schools are concerned. I have a teenage daughter in Suitland High.....I'm not crazy about that school either (location), but they are a performing arts schools AND they have the International Bacclareate (sp) program along with many other Honors and Advanced courses.

Good Luck.
