Default A talented and caring hairdresser (for Relaxers) in Maryland/DC

Hello Again!

I am looking for a hair dresser who is talented and actually cares about her/his client's hair health. I'd like to get a relaxer.

I know about Dominican stylists, and I had a VERY bad experience with one back in my old state. This woman ASSUMED that my hair was very...idk, rough, when actually I'm mixed and my is very long (mid back) & straightens easily. SHE put some harsh perm in my hair which really weakened my hair. My hair has since recovered, but I'm very conscious of who I chose to style my hair. Plus she cut off 5 inches! And I explicitly told her that I was growing my hair for my wedding and that I wanted it to be waist length! Horrible woman!

So anyways! The stylist doesn't have to be Black, just good. I had an amazing stylist who was Portuguese, and she was the first stylist I ever had who actually cared about my hair! <3

So do you know of a stylist who is:

1. knowledgeable

2. not full of attitude

3. not wanting to charge an arm and a leg

4. not located in the depths of the ghetto

I just want someone who I can trust with my hair. I think all women can commiserate with me here, I mean, I want healthy hair. I like my hair long, and it's really beautiful when it's done properly. I've been doing my hair myself for the past 8 months...not a relaxer, just roll & set & flat-iron every 2.5 weeks. (I refuse to use exorbitant amounts of heat, often)

The stylist can be located w/in a 50 mile radius of Baltimore, thanx.

I am not exactly sure how to spell her name (she is Vietnamese- her english is perfect-she did cosmetology training in US). It is pronounced Ja-team-a. She works at Glamor Salon located in Kings Contrivance Village (in Columbia Maryland) - It is back behind the Harris Teeter at 8640 Guilford Rd - Columbia. Phone (410) 381-3242. The place looks like a hole in the wall -but their prices are very reasonable. She does my highlights and has never fried my hair - she also conviced me to get layers cut - and she was right it made my hair look much fuller. I totally trust her. My hair now looks better than it has in years. If you decide to go with this place, just make sure you are getting her, and make sure you speak to her on the phone not her boss. Her boss just tries to get money coming in the door. But (Ja-team-a?) will tell you if she can work with your hair type and do relaxation on your hair or not. I just would not trust that woman that usually answers the phone.
