marielally is on a distinguished road
Charles County areas such as La Plata, White Plains and Hughesville have many homes currently available within your price range. Additionally, the commute is really no worse than some of the other suggested areas like Montgomery and Howard Counties....you are looking at an hour or less commute time and a distance of about 30 miles with these areas in Southern Maryland. You can check out school zoning at Transporting... (Charles County Board of Education) and then see how the schools rate at GreatSchools - Public and Private School Ratings, Reviews and Parent Community.

Additionally, Northern Calvert County and Southern Anne Arundel County offer a better commute - probably only 25 miles or so. There are also homes available that are priced within your budget, though not nearly as many as in Charles County. School info for both of these areas are also available on-line.

I live in and love Southern Maryland. It is scenic, it has areas rich in history, it offers every convenience but still has beautiful rural and natural areas, and most of all it has beautiful waterways that offer endless recreation like boating, fishing, waterfront dining, etc. It is certainly an area worth considering...

I would say 200-350K is doable in Prince George's County. Look at great schools and see if you can afford the areas where the school is at. Also check with the County School board. P.G. has some strange boundary lines. Example. When I live in Suitland, MD I lived down the street from Suitland High School. I ended up going 5 miles down the road to another school when I was about 3/4 of a mile away from Suitland High School. Just an example.

I would encourage you to at least take a look at P.G. There are good and bad areas in any of the other counties mention. I won't lie to you P.G. has more questionable areas then other areas, but P.G. is a fairly big county. You can get what you want in the county and still have a life.

Everyone has made a sacrifice to live further away for a reason, either be it better schools, cheaper homes or both. You won't be killed living in P.G. just for no reason. So don't let people tell you other wise. I would suggest taking a look at all the areas mentioned and making an informed decision about what you feel comfortable with. If it is P.G. great, if not hey great. But take at look at the whole area, and see what fit's you. You can't go wrong with living in P.G. Montgomery, Howard, Anne Arundel County, MD or Fairfaix, Prince William, Arlington, and Alexandria, VA. By the way I'm a native of 23 years living in the D.C. area. So I know the goods and bad's of both sides of the Bridge.

Be blessed in your search.
