Default Questions about towns close to Hagerstown!

Well can anyone tell me which town close to Hagerstown is nice, and where you can find a nice house or apartment to rent until you buy a house? Also which towns have great schools for kids. I looked at a map and found some towns close to Hagerstown. Fort Ritchie, Robinwood, Mount Aetna, Cavetown, Funkstown, San Mar, Williamsport, Antietam, and Clear Springs are all close enough. Thanks for all of the input and advice!

Sharpsburg (not Antietam -it's a battlefield not a town) is a nice town to live in (quiet, but close enough to shopping/stores etc), but I don't know if you'd find many houses/apartments for rent here. The kids from this area go to the elementry school in town and the middle school and high school in Boonesboro. You'd probably have more luck looking in Boonesboro or Williamsport for rentals. Robinwood and Mt. Aetna are roads on the outskirts of Hagerstown, not actual towns themselves.

Per my other post, count this as another vote for Boonsboro

If you're doing a rental, try Frederick County as well - maybe Walkersville or New Market - this will put you closer to shopping & dining and public transit, if these are important to you.

I'd say that most schools in this area are very safe, if not up to the same standards academically as the nicer areas of Frederick County (Monrovia/Urbana/Mt. Airy etc), or especially if you went further west or south (Howard County - Glenelg or River Hill high school districts really can't be beat pretty much anywhere in the country).

North Howard County will put you about 40 mins from Hagerstown if schools are the #1 priority. Boonsboro is likely your best choice overall though, especially if you hate commuting as much as I do...

Good luck!

Live in Hagerstown My husband and I have to live in Frederick and it is so expensive. Rentals in and around Hagerstown I love- Brookemeade (in Williamsport) Check livinginhagerstown.com
Also, Pinewood apartments are wonderful.
(I know the original poster doesn't care anymore--- but this is for anyone who looks at old posts for advice, like myself- instead of asking again!!! )

but... Frederick County public schools have been great to me, as a teacher! They are pretty amazing. Hagerstown (washington county) also has a great system. I also interviewed with them.

I would recommend living close to the community college because I used to live there. Woodbridge community for example belongs to the good schools of Smithsburg.
