My family just relocated to Virginia. My husband has a contract job working for Northrop Grumman at Fort Meyers, however we were told within 2 years it will be moving to Fort Meade. We're wanting to find someplace in between. We are young 21 and 25 and we have a newborn and an almost 2 year old. We will be buying a house and have found several in the Lanham MD. area that we like. We are from Nevada and have only been here for 3 weeks, we are currently in temporary lodging across from Pentagon row. We don't particularly like living in Arlington, we want to live somewhere with a small town feel... but that still has some shopping. We want someplace safe, and someplace that has a community feel.

Any ideas?

Let me suggest that you take a look at Crofton,Md. Anne Arundel County, on Route 3/301 just north of Bowie.

Or try Bowie. It's not that far from Fort Meade.

There is also Laurel. Lanham is not a very good choice based on your description.

I woundn't say lanham is unsafe. For the most part Lanham is somewhat urban/suburban area. Nice older communites. Some part of it of the town aren't idea, but in all my years of growing up in P.G. county I've never known Lanham to be a bad area. Beltsville, Glenn Dale, Bowie, Laurel are good areas as well.
