Default Possible relocation to Salisbury

Hello,

I was recently accepted to the graduate school at Salisbury University. I haven't decided yet if I will attend graduate school there or in North Carolina. I was wanting to get some ideas both good and bad. I have read several boards that talk about the crime rate in Salisbury being high, but I haven't found too many people saying good things about the area.

If I decide to attend school at Salisbury, I will be moving withmy wife and 18 month old son. My studies will take the largest portion of my time, so I want to make sure that they will be safe and have things to do to occupy their time.

My graduate program is a 2 year program, so we probably wouldn't be buying a house. Can anyone tell me of any good apartments that would be suitable for a small family? I am willing to commute to campus, so they don't have to be right in Salisbury.

Thank you for all of your assistance.

Greetings,

Crime has been on the increase ever since the economy started to slide down hill. Mainly I have seen the increase over the past 2 years. It seems to be centralized in the heart of the city and mainly in the older areas. There are many nice places on the outskirts of town (which is not very far) and you should be able to find a nice place to stay in a safe neighborhood.

Outside of town the landscape turns to farmland and sparse housing developments. You might be able to find a house to rent that won't cost you too much. Compared to the Baltimore side of the Chesapeake Bay the Eastern Shore is a wonderful place for a young family with plenty of opportunities for playing outside (which I feel is more important than sitting at home in front of the tube) There are not a lot of jobs there but if you are just going to school then you should be fine. You are 30 minutes away from the Ocean, and there are all sorts of orchards to spend your summer and Fall picking fresh fruit and then there is horseback riding and fishing, canoeing etc etc.

If you are curious I would contact a local real estate agent and see what they can find in a house with a yard in your price range. There are a few quaint nice towns within 15-30 minutes of the school.

Best of luck

Thanks for the info. I will look at the surrounding areas and see what they have to offer.

You could always look into the Fruitland area which is only a mile or two, maybe three due south from Salisbury University itself. It becomes a bit more rural...and you would also be close to the university.
